Looks like I have to replace the rear door seal(s) on my
barn door 80 series....lots of
water getting in the back and this seems the only viable point of origin. What I am interested to know (before I cock right up) is what is used to hold the main seal on. There is some black residue on the body and I am wondering if it is the like of windscreen sealant ?
Thanks all.
Andy

On our 80 the seals all clip into holes in the door inner skin but when the panelbeater refitted the seals after repairing and painting the holes that the Police (previous owners) drilled for their bars he stuck one on with black adhesive, maybe Bostick, and of course it didn't last that long. When I went to fit new seals the Bostick was a bit hard to remove. I reckon yours may have copped the same treatment at some stage.

The ones on the doors on
mine also clip in. The one that seems to be giving me the problem is the one that surrounds the whole rear bay and is mounted to the body (if that all makes sense). It has a grove in it that slides over a lip on the body and there is some sort of adhesive there I think.
Thanks greatly (I will probably do all of them in one go I guess.

Hi Andy
Check that their is no cracks in the body near the top on both sides, a pretty common problem with the 80.
Have fun

Sikaflex is the most common adhesive for rubber to metal- like you say, windscreen adhesive.
To get old stuff off, use heat- heat lamp, hair dryer etc or a razor blade.
