Does anybody know anything firm about this?? I have been told late November but surely someone out there must know something by now! When? What? Changes?

Hi Viv,
I have been told that the new Prado should be released late Nov as you have mentioned, the diesel will be a common rail type as used in the new Hilux, and produce around 128 kw's !

Hi Viv,

I was at Peter Kittle Toyota (Adelaide) this morning and was told they are expecting one in any day now as a demo.

Will be excellent for us of the poorer breed! :-)

Lot's of second hand 1kz-te prado's will now drop in value! Will mean if I ever get rid of the surf, I'll have a cheaper option! HAHA

This new one should be a good bus though, common rail and 5 speed auto will be just the ticket I reckon.

Heard at work today from a high up source in toyota heirachy that unfortunately the Prado update has been postponed for a further 6 months. The original planned release date was supposed to be April of this year, but for some strange reason only known to toyota execs, they have postponed it 2 or 3 times now, aswell as the Landcruiser 79 replacement. they have been postponed a few times since their originally planned release date of early 2006.

makes you wonder why they are postponing ?

My theory is the upgraded engines are too powerfu for carryover drivetrain components which toyota would have used to save on development costs.

I don't think it's as complex as that. While the old one still sells well there is no pressure and the old one may have higher margins. If you look at Toyota's behavior over the last 30 years they only raise the bar under pressure from the opposition.

FWIW apparently they are out of new 4.2TD's (in Sahara trim at least) and the new model is not due until September 07!! There will be some unhappy dealers out there.
