Hi all, we have inherited an 84 Paj with a 4d56 motor and have been fixing it up. While it was idling away yesterday(1st decent run) there was some oil coming out of the engine pipe part of the exhaust. I'm thinking leaking turbo seals. It has 260k on the clock and probably the odd hot shut-down, and the turbo has never been looked at professionally. If this is the case, any ideas where to get it fixed(can remove it myself) and approx. price. I'm in the
newcastle area. Thanks in advance, Ooze.

Hi Oose
Cost me $630 to recondition my 1986 HQ patrol last week Plus extra to reface the exhaust manifold
Best of luck

Hi OOZE, What do you mean, oil from engine pipe?. If the vehicle has been sitting for a while, take it for a good run(100k) and recheck.

STEVEO69,
By engine pipe I mean the part of the exhaust that connects to the outlet side (exhaust side) of the turbo. It' disconnected at the moment. The car has been sitting for a few years, we have done the rear main, crank shaft, camshaft and balance shaft seals as
well as the sump gasket, new timing belts, fan and p/s belts and hoses. Was a little concerned about running it with the oil coming through, thought it might pool in the exhaust and ignite???? Although I suppose there's the chance it would just blow out with the rest of the gasses and spray the back of the car!!! lol.

On one of these engines with that sort of k's on the clock the oil is more likely to be 'blow by' which is compression escaping past the rings and forcing oil out of the rocker cover breather and in to the turbo inlet. Run the engine with the breather disconnected and see how much oil mist and gas pressure is coming out of it.
I am afraid that the old 2.5 Mits turbodiesel was only good for 250 to 300 thousand k's .
Regards Ken.
