Saw in the Weekend Australian that the Birsdville CP is for lease - does this mean that our wonderful Ruth won't be there to give us advice, help and general friendliness?
Cheers

Alleycat,
That is correct about the Caravan
Park, but I am sure that Ruth will still the updates about
Birdsville and the
Simpson Desert that we need.
The
Birdsville pub is also up for sale and the John from the Working Museum will still be there in 2007 at least.
The
bakery will open again next March.

Yes, Ruth and Ian retired at the end of October. They have a house in
Birdsville and will still spend some time there, so I understand.
I am sure that Ruth will still stay in touch with ExplorOz readers and pass on desert advice from time to time.
Cheers

.......and possibly travel with people or meet them on EO events. If you need an experienced travel guide for the fishing spots up that way, I am sure Ian could lead the way.

Hi Alleycat,
Ruth and Ian are probably in
Rathdowney now but Ruth has assured me she will be back in
the desert (as a tourist) next year and will be able to get to some of the outback events (like Willems national gathering) that work commitments kept her from in the past.
The caravan
park is still for lease. Go for the double and buy the pub at the same time!!
We will be in
Birdsville in the next 10 days after spending some more time in
the desert.
Cheers

By the way, the email thing has a couple of bits that you have to get rid of...I know that addy works

But are you able to work ?? Then..Buy the
Birdsville Pub ..and you will work like you never did before...and then if you want to make your fortune...buy the caravan
park from the Doyles... and then learn how to make a buck .. bleep simple ...money falls out of the sky in
Birdsville specially when you are a born and bred townie !!!
If you couldn't make a quick quid in
Birdsville you would have to be ...

Thanks for all the reassurances about Ruth - it's good to know that she'll still be around.
Don't know how much the lease is Ozrover, but I'm sure you could find out on the Net - the Pub is also for sale but a bit out of my price range at $6 mil (from memory). What it would be to be rich enough to do all that you want to do................
Cheers

6 Mil ?? tellem their dreaming. The Qld pub of the year is only valued at 30 mil due to turnover and gross profit of 250k per mth.

If I had 6 Mil to play with then I wouldn't need a job : )> Travelling around Oz next year, and apart from doing the normal touristy thing we will be looking for opportunities, i.e. caravan parks, motels etc... Pubs are a bit out of my range!
