Anyone know the thread size on IPF lights? Had a set fitted today apparently there's not enough clearance to use the special key spanner to fit the lock nuts without removing the bar, so I was thinking of putting a second set of nylocs or something on to slow down any potential thieving mongrels. ARB didn't know the threadsize offhand.

Hey there Scubaroo.
Just measured the length of the thread from the bottom of the swivel hub to the leend of the thread and it appears to be 30mm.
Bit hard to get at as the 80 series is parked in the garage and now I have spider webs all over my shirt...oh well.
Hope this helps
Tim

Thanks, but I meant the thread pitch, e.g M6

If you have large IPF lights eg 800/900 series they use M12x1.75

The smaller IPF lights are M10 x 1.5 (I think the pitch is 1.5)

These are the only two sizes they have

Thanks - they're IPF 900XS so most likely the M12 x 1.75 size. ARB knew that they were 12mm but didn't know the pitch.

Scubaroo,

Metric threads are categorised not only by bolt diameter but also by thread pitch.

Metric thread pitch is measured from the tip of one thread to the tip of the next thread. There are 3 metric thread pitches. These are 1.0, 1.25 and 1.5, measured in millimetres.

e.g M6 1.25, indicates that the bolt diamter is 10 mm and the thread pitch from thread crest to thread crest is 1.25mm

another e.g – M10 1.5 = a bolt diameter of 10mm and a thead pitch of 1.5 mm

another M16 1.0 = 16 mm diameter by 1.0mm thread pitch.

I would hazard a guess that the bolts on your lights are M12 1.5

But that’s only a “guess unseen”

UNC, UNF, BSW and BSF threads are measured differently in “Thread per Inch” or “TPI”

Your best bet is to remove a light and take the bolt down to an engineering workshop or an engineering supplies shop. They'll have a guage that can measure what thread it is.

Thanks Bilbo.

About as simple as scuba tank valve thread sizes - where the 3/4" valves are larger than 7/8" valves because of the standard used!
