This site may be of interest to some of you with GPS navigation devices, I came across it yesterday via another forum. It has POI for any thing from bank ATM's to red light camera's.

I've got most of the POI's loaded into TomTom. Most of the banks are just for Tasmania though. I've got public toilets, all of the major fuel suppliers, Bunnings, Dan Murphys and most important of all, spped and red light cameras.

It's a very useful site if you use TomTom.

Hi Errol.
So far I haven't had any time to look into the website or download anything yet.
If I find out any info I will advise.
I will also keep an eye out on the Ozi Explorer forum, where the site info came from.

Neil

Hello Errol - when you say they wont open do you mean the RAR file (a compression format) you download initially or the ov2 file (tomtom format) contained inside the RAR file.
If you have a Tomtom device (you dont say)...First you need to uncompress the RAR file, get free demo of winrar here v 3.61 at top of list

www.rarlab.com/download.htm

then you need to connect your device to your PC then access it by going to My Documents> TomTom> AustraliaMap, then just Copy and Paste the *.ov2 and *.bmp files into that directory. Then close and remove your TomTom from your PC and start it up. Then go to POI and the file shall be there ready for use.

If you have some other gps device (magellan, garmin for example) first use POIEdit program

www.poiedit.com/

to convert the ov2 files to the correct format for what ever device format you require (assuming it is supported)

GPX format is quiet universal so that is not a bad format to go to - If you use a Magellan (and Mapsend Lite), or a Garmin (with Mapsource) or OziExplorer you can convert ov2 to gpx format and import that way.

Cheers
Greg

Hi there,

Had a look and downloaded the poi editor and a set of "poi's" Seems that they call "waypoints", poi's. They are saved as such and only appear in your waypoint list not as poi's.. I use a Garmin 276c.
Anyone else have any comment ??

I set up the spedd cams as proximity waypoints, and the Garmin beeps when I am near one, So I know to be diligent.

Garmins use waypoints, navigators such as Destinator and TomTom have Points of Interest POI's, Garmin has them too look under fund in your unit, if you have the CityNavigator maps or Metroguide you will have many of them in there from Pizza Hut to the local hair repairer
