Hi,
Can anyone tell me if a 40series and 60 series diff have the same ratios. I want to put a 60 series front diff assembly (complete with power steering and disc brake setups) into an FJ 40series short wheel base. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers...Stolzy

I have put 60 series diffs in a HJ47, I believe the later FJ40 was the same but not sure about the earlier ones. Some of the earlier 3 speeds had a different ratio, But the HJ47 and the 60 are the same diff and ratio if that helps. You shouldnt need to change the housing though just to fit the power sterring and the discs. The swivel hubs will do, As for the power steering, in my investigations it wass easier to fit the 75 series steering box as it can be fitted out the front of the chassis.
See how you go

Thanks Ray. Was intending to change the whole diff as the swivel hubs are starting to leak, but I guess the seals are easy enough to change.

the advice to use a 75 series steering box might be the go as the reason that HJ47's didn't have power steering from the factory (the last of the 45's did) was apparently due to clearance problems between the 2H, chassis/engine mount and the power steering pump and steering box
there have been a few power steering setups fitted using a 40 or 45 series pwr steer box though which only requires relocation of the actual power steering pump.

When I did mine the wiper kit and axle seals were only about $25 per side. That was 5 years ago, Did the disc conversion, Steering knuckle bearings and new CVs at the same time
