I just got a price on these storage wheels for my caravan it drops it down 100mm so it will fit under a carport and the cost was $495 a pair so I went down to look at them ( I WAS VERY CURIOUS) only to find they looked alot like anodised suriser rim centres without the actual outside rim it just had some heavy flat bar welded around it with some nylon to stop it damaging the concrete I picked one up and put it up against a rim it looked identical .....SO IM THINKINGGGGGGGG!!!!!??????
I will have to think about this a little more as it seems too easy any thoughts guys .

Regards J.B.

Friend with a gas axe????? Nothing.

Good thinking - I like it.

Hi J.B.

It's only a rippoff if you actually pay for these things.
It sounds as if your brain is in gear.
You might even be able to make up more than one set and then sell the extra pairs at $495 the set
Wot a Rippoff !!!

Cheers

Should have been on-line a few months ago! I had a set of custom made mini caravan wheels that I no longer needed and I offered in the forum for a carton (and Keith took me up on the offer).

The wheels were made by cutting the hub section out of a cruiser wheel and welding it into a 10” dia by 4” wide section of pipe (5mm thick). This was then coated with polyurethane so the wheel was “rubber” coated. These wheels are much better than the ones you pay $450 for at a caravan shop.

Note that the final diameter is only about 10mm greater than a 10” drum brake so if you have 12” brakes then these wheels are too small (but could easily be made for a 12" size). Also if you have uneven brick paving then your brake drum “may” touch over undulations. I had these wheels made as small as possible as my van still just kissed the roller door when putting it into the garage.

Bottom line is that this concept works exceedingly well and is well worth the effort for the $$$ saved.

Cheers

Hey Muzzgit and The Fox, thanks for the link.

I have been trying to come up with an idea to compress the springs on the camper so that I don't have to lift it as high to get the weight off the springs. The straps lower it another ??cms. You beauty it had to be simple but that is so simple I never would have thought of it.

Thanks again
