G`day all,,,Have had a busy week travelling back and forth from Mandurah to Perth for doctors appointments. Decided to check the fuel consumption and had a pleasant surprise, 9.7 Ltr/100K. Now for us old blokes that equates to about 28 MPG cant complain about that. I also get around 15 to 16Ltr/100 towing a 20ft full van with a 3.8Mtr tinny on top of the truck, very happy with that also. Well I guess thats one good point for the little ZD30 TD engine. Regards ,,,Nav.

Is that the 4.2 TD your talking about? if so I think you should get better than that. How long since she had a tune up? injectors timing etc sounds a bit high to me.

yeah GU3, 4.2ITD, she's pushin 285/75 bfg's, and the lift kit hangs everything in the breeze. the tuning is spot it, well it should be its only done 60,000km. my brother's petrol one does about 26l/100km. They are heavy cars, 3040kg without anything in them!!

That still seems like too much bloody fuel to me champ!!!!
My 2000 4.2TD runs the same weight plus I tow a camper trailer a fair amount of the time. The only real difference is that I'm running 265/75s MTR, but do have 4" of lift.
I consistently get figures of around 15.6L/100klm , only getting up to around 19L/100 when I've been doing a fair bit of sand &/or low range stuff with the camper on the back.
Certainly NEVER seen anything like 26L/100 out of my beast....and I'm running a larger turbo (Schwitzer ....Denco kit).
Cheers mate

Hey Roachie !
My Navara is heavy on fuel ONLY when towing , which is 5% time...

The rest of the time, with its 600 + kg's, less weight than your Patrol, is really fuel efficient.

RunninGu

There must be something wrong with your GU to be getting that sort of fuel Fuel economy maybe a hole in your tank.

After completing over 5000klm towing a van that weighs 2583kg I averaged 5.2klm per litre of diesel or 19.23 litres per 100klm. The Tow vehicle is 2000 GU patrol 4.2 diesel with after market Turbo and 145000klm on the clock.

If you are interested go to Post 38594 to here what sort of fuel consummation other people get with a similar package.

Hope This Helps

Sounds about right, my GU 3.0l with 190000 kms does about a litre per 100 more not towing and about the same towing. Can't complain about that.

We just picked up our brand new D40 Navara TD manual and drove it from Melb. to the Grampians for the Melb Cup long weekend.

First 750ks worked out at 8.4L per 100 with all camping gear, and on cruise control at 100ks.

Next 550ks worked out at 8.1L per 100 with same gear coming home via the great ocean road.

Very happy with that but am not surprised as the vehicle just seems to flatten hills on a wave of torque with minimum pedal pressure.

Could easily adjust driving style to get down into the low 7's, and that with all our gear on board. I think this car is underated.

Previous vehicles were Jeep Cherokee and GU Patrol.

Cheers!

Hello NAV8.

Yes, that is the new 2.5 TD. Test drove the auto first but was disappointed with that trans/engine combination. I felt it lost too much through the auto. box.
Tried the manual and bingo! Exactlty what we wanted.

We previously had a 3.0L Patrol (only 2 y.o.) but sold that because I was not satisfied that it would remain a reliable vehicle over the period of time that we intended to keep it.

Obviously, the Navara is unproven in this country, but has been around for a while elsewhere. Both the US and the English Navara forums are kind to the vehicle.

Certainly through the seat of my pants, it is certainly a much happier/sweeter vehicle to drive. The engine is remarkably quiet and smooth and driving it is simple reward in itself.

We bought it to tow a 1.1t Evernew van but have yet to hitch it up. Still running it in. But as this vehicle is lighter yet more powerful than the Patrol, towing our van will be a snack for the Navara.

We waited for 2 months for this vehicle and believe me it was worth every second.

Cheers! GU

Thanks GU, I just cant come to terms with a 2.5Ltr having a tow capacity of 2800Kg. Not ready to upgrade the 3Ltr just yet so will just wait and see what they turn out like. Regards Nav.
