Hi there all! was wondering if anyone has had problems with nm stop lamp fuse. i noticed it was blown while testing trailer lights. thought that could be the problem so disconnected the socket completely. no luck so disconnected rear side lamps and back door lamp, still no luck, fuse blows as soon as brake pedal depressed. do the bumper lights give trouble? also have after market cruise control (2.8l diesel). any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can only suggest the switch at the pedal end or damage to the wiring along the way to the rear. Apart form that ... sorry.

You say you have disconnected the trailer socket completely. Have you had a look inside the socket , the wires do come off sometimes.

Hi LyalltheCrocodile

Will not directly fix your problem but assist in finding it without blowing 100 fuses.

To save fuses on a fault condition (s/c) you replace the fuse with a 12v low wattage lamp. This will mean that the lamp will glow instead of the fuse blowing every time you press the pedal. Then go through a process of eliination by disconnecting things one at a time until you locate the problem.
When the fault is corrected then replace the fuse.

Hi there... as an auto electrician, whenever we get a problem like yours, the trailer plug wiring (on the car) is always "faulty until proven otherwise".

It is always the first place to check.

Good luck.

MT

P.S. The test light cross the fuse holder is what we use.. light glows bright - short circuit!

thanks all, should have thought about the 12v light myself, being an electrician. anyway went out this morning disconnected the bumper lights (didnt realise it was so easy or would have done it earlier) reinstalled the fuse- so far so good. replaced the rt hand light-no problem, so disconnected the right hand light and connected the left hand one. again no problem connected everything back up and it's all working. Grrrr....i hate intermittent faults. anyway perhaps the connecters were dirty? but the fuse was going with such a 'pop' that it seems unlikely. anyway thanks for the help, see how long it stays working.

Has exactly the same problem on my NM - it took several trips to autoelectricians/mitsubishi before it was diagnosed as........a fault with the trailer wiring!

There are also some posts on pajero club forum which indicate that the fuse has been underspecced and some owners have replaced the existing fuse with the next rating up and solved the problem.
