Good morning all
I am in the procees of finishing a restoraton job on my 1967 honda moped. (Then I can join the Hells Angels) lol.
Have come to the petrol
tank and it rattles. My torch tells me its pretty rusty inside.
Does anyone know of a repairer that can fix the problem? The
tank also has obviously got a small hole in it and someone has done a bodgy repair on it.
I also need some plastic welding done on the mud guards. Small country towns don't seem to have these facilities.
Thanks Bob

Hells Angels? you need at least 125cc and it has to be black.
Sounds like you should try to find another
tank mate.....ring the wreckers.
If there is one small hole I bet there is about 100 nearly holes or ones you can't see. plastic welding is no problem, talk to a he would know plastic welders.
have fun

Hi Bob
Go to one of your nearest motor cycle shops. My dad had a similar problem and they sold him a two part kit for just that problem. From memory, the first part etches the inside of the
tank, removing any rust etc. you then rinse and then do the next part which seals the
tank.
You leave he
tank to cure for a few days and works like a dream.
8 years down the track and his
tank is still holding out.
Cheers
Stephen

Have a talk to the Rebels, I think they lost a few members lately and could do with some more. The biggest ride they do would be the toy run ( about 10km) and your moped would have no problem. But I'm sure it still has to be black.....they are all individuals :-)
Sorry Westy :-) ( only joking)

This is where you can buy the 3 stage kit for
tank restoration for $63 www._Permanent_Painted_Coatings.aspx.au.com/kits3.htm
I looked into this exact thing before we planned on building a house (and now can`t afford to do up the old CB900F ). I can`t remember the site, but there is a place in Oz where you can send your
tank for restoration. They put the
tank through an oven to dry it out, cut a hole in the underside for rust removal, then weld it together again and line the inside with a fiberglass type of resin. They also sandblast it and give it an undercoat before sending it back. If you look long enough on Google.com.au I`m sure you will find it.
A search of "fuel
tank restoration" on google will come up with quite a few results. The most popular way to seal it seems to be to line the
tank with a fiberglass resin.
Good luck.
