Yeh, I do it every time (
well, tent, anyway). There are some wayside stops on the way where there are pit
toilets and a rainwater tank, but don't rely on either. If there are plenty of people stopped there you should be pretty safe. Otherwise, if you want to get
well of the road, take one of the access roads to the many (mostly unused) microwave towers and find a spot there. This gets you
well away from the noise of trucks.
Unfortunately, last time I stayed at a wayside stop some idiot European tourists in a Kombi were playing their music
well into the night. They did apologise and stop the music when asked to, tho.
