Last weekend a mate was telling me of a trio of Japanese tourists who dropped in to his family cellar door sales.

They started in Darwin and have 4.5 weeks to circumnavigate the country.
Now 2.5 weeks in, and have come via Perth.

One driver, all packed in to an un-air conditioned hyundai exel (or is it excel?).

My mate reckons they looked pretty shagged.

What a trip to remember!

And have probably seen bugger all. At least they will have a thousand photo's of them all standing in front of something proving that they have been there

Around 1990 we did the same thing, a flying visit around Oz in 4 weeks. Had kids and jobs to return to. The idea was to find out which places we liked and come back there when we had more long service, which we did.
It was more like a marathon drive, and we saw quite a lot in bite sized chunks. Enjoyed every second.
But when we went round the second time, a bit more slowly, it had all changed in 5 years. Funny thing, that :)))

I'm looking into the possibility in doing a 24x7 drive with 4 mates at some point...
Might take a week and a bit.
Don't care much for seeing stuff, I just love to drive.

I'll do it properly in a couple of years with the wife and kids though.

I did 12k in 3 weeks many moons ago, enjoyed every minute of the experience. I was new to the country and everything was so different. I hope our tourists are enjoying the experience as well.

Was in Kiwi Land about 5 yrs ago, and was amazed to see tour buses driving around with Japanese Tourists asleep onboard with vid camera's taped to the windows, so they could view their trip when they got home heheheh, easier and cheaper to by a video

the in-laws of a mate of mine did it in just under 3 weeks.
He's one of these people that cant sit and do nouthing . always doing something.
never watches tv, always tinkering in the garage or something.
i think if you do it under 6 months at a minimum. your doing it too fast and its a waste of energy.

Yeah. We went from Melbourne, West to Perth, ( that took 4 weeks, and 7,000Kms.)then up the West coast, along the Gibb River Rd., Darwin, and down the centre to Pt. Augusta, then across NSW to Newcastle, and down the coast to home. All up 25,000 Kms. and 6 months.Saw some great sights, and had great experiences. Fortunately, we're retired so didn't have to rush. But it's still surprising how little we saw. Oz is a bloody big paddock!!
