A nice day of 4WD yesterday up in the hills on Saturday.

We watched yesterday as a guy in his Cruiser Ute bent his steering arms and another guy in a modified 60 series broke or bent a spring or something. Doing a hill climb. There was also a modified 100 Toyo and a modified patrol that also did it with a bit of effort.

One of mates in his Modified jeep then put them to shame buy just crawling up the same hill without even spinning a tyre, the highlight thou was one of my other friends in his 88 rang rover who just gave it a Boot Full of gas using the I don’t give a F**k philosophy to get thru ,It's amazing at where you can get the 4By to go using this metod LOL.

We had a stock Coil cab patrol along with us and it amazed me at how good they actually are stock and how good the patrol LSD’s are.

On the last Hill climb out, The Jeep did it with ease (amazing what $8000 worth of suspension and driveline can do LOL) the stock patrol just crawled up and out hardly struggling, the Rangie needed 2 goes and a boot full to get out.

The Explorer needed 3 goes and a boot full to get out resulting In 1 dented slider bar. I put that down to poor wheel articulation (IFS and leafs on the back) a diff lock would of made a big difference, I think low range second would have made a difference too as my throttle is to sensitive in low range 1st making it to easy to spin the tyres, arr Hindsight is a wonderful thing LOL.

Watching the other 4WD’s that were out (Perth 4*4 I think they were) and comparing the leaf to coil suspensions there is a world of difference, the Coil sprung 4by would crawl throe places where the leaf sprung ones were spinning tyres and needing a hole heap of right peddle to get throe, It’s not all about ride height and tyres it about articulation as show buy the Patrol.

On another note I had a word too the owner of a 4BY’s who had a 6.5 Chevy fitted, Said it was a fantastic engine, fuel consumption around 14-15Ltrs per 100.

After I asked about them, He had nothing good to say about the WA mob who fit’s them (I won’t mention the name but we all know) Hopes they did a better Job of rebuilding the engine than they did of fitting it!!, reckons there Custom Radiator is a POS and it leaked from new, he was not a happy camper.

I was surprised as the reports from hear tell a different story well there are always to sides I guess.

Cheers.
