Hi

I'm looking for a couple of litres of straight 140W diff oil. Something like Penrite hypoid 140 or limslip 140 would be good.

But, I can't find any retail stores that sell it. Everywhere I've tried only has the more common oils like 90W140.

Can anyone recommend a store in Melbourne which would sell this.

Thanks

Been down this track - BP used to sell a straight 140 limslip in 4 litre containers, but now one can only get it in 200L drums.
For my Patrol, I rang Nissan and they reckoned that a 90/140 limslip was ok for the Patrol. But I would rather use the proper stuff.
Nissan do sell the LSD additive to add to 140 hypoid oil as recommend in their handbook.

Hi Sean

Penrite make a 140 LSD oil. Repco can order it in if they don't have it in stock.

Don't be talked into multi grade gear oil if it is for a Patrol as it won't do the job. You will also require some Penrite LSD additive at about $12 for one bottle which should be enough.

I am giving this advice from experience, as I got talked into a multi grade by so called experts. Next thing I was experiencing an intermittent shudder when moving from a standstill on near full lock under load. It was like clutch shudder but mine's an automatic. So called experts wanted to do many things, (at great expense to me of course) but fortunately I picked up a forum thread on ExplorOz.com which recommended Penrite 140.

Cheers
Phil

Stupid Answer - from a diff press. Usually when you crush a diff housing the oil leaks out.

Seriously, try some trucking servos. on the northern outskirts of town if all else fails.

Just did full oils change in a mates' newly purchased GQ- is Castrol LSX90 ("for lsd diffs in a range of Aust, US and Jap vehicles up to 1992"- what changed in '92?) ok for a rear lsd in a GQ 4.2petrol???- haynes manual for gq just says "limited slip differntial hypoid gear oil with no mention of weight?
But Gregories manual for my GU specifies "Nissan LSD oil KL031-14002 or SAE140API GL5 + 10% LSD friction modifier"......... what the??? didn't think diffs had really changed b/w models except gear sizes with different engines.
