IMHO, it would have to be a real bargain... probably under $20k

depends on what its been used for in the past, towing, road only touring etc?

We have got 413,000 on ours and it is still going strong. We do 11,000km trips round Auz every 2nd year and it never skips a beat. My hubby is a pain in the backside when it comes to services and oil changes. We even do an oil change on the side of the road outback if it is due. So, we carry buckets, containers, oil etc and will stop for morning tea while oil is changed.

But, having said that, we have been driving a cruiser that has never let us down and we are both confident that when we do Darwin next year, we will still have our trusty cruiser.

Jimmy

I'd been inclined to value all the mechanical bits at zero as a starting point, essentially only assigning value to the body/chassis. Unless the mechanical items have been fully reconditioned and you can verify the value spent and workmanship on them.

We went through the same process when we bought our Defender 130.

I agree, 400,000K is a lot of wear and tear on all mechanical component's and any 4x4 repairs are expensive. Nav.

Yeah if its the base model (standard) I'd wouldn't pay anything close to 20K. I bought my 01 with 250K and paid well under $20K.....yes mines abit rough around the edges.

Get a compression check on the engine (cause even 400k is a lot unless immacualtely maintained and driven) and ensure the tranny etc shifts alright. (when in all gears jab the accerator (on-off-on-off) and if the gear lever jumps out than you can knock the owner down another 2K to replace/overhaul the box (manual that is.....wouldn't know about the auto)

Everything else you need to check for, no matter how many km's are on it.

Good luck.

Motors go for ever if maintained but gearbox and rear diff would be due for overhaul. I would be looking for one with 200000ks or less. Vehicles are very hard to sell at the moment so drive a very hard bargain
Cheers and good luck Pete

u can never have too many km on a cruiser lol unlike hem patrols.
anyway seriously, ive just brought a 99 100 series gxl auto and that had 350,000 on the clock. got it for 19000 from car yard after 3000 trade in on old 60 series.
it drives like a dream, no leaks, driveline noises etc just a few dents, scratches etc but hey they give it character.
Just give it a good going over and long test drive and if ur still happy with it then buy it.

good luck
jason
