My local council takes it at the tip - no cost.

I use some of it, mixed 50/50 with kerosene, as a fire starter - great for wet days in the High Country.

A lot of modern big trucks (diesel of course) continually bleed sump oil into the fuel system whilst new oil is metered into the sump. Saves doing oil changes and getting rid of waste oil. Don't know how much filtering is done before it mixes with fuel and goes through the injector pump so don't know if you can put a little into your tank evrytime you top up. Can anyone else comment?

Can we have the link to the info on the web

Or what truck engines (modern) would run old lube oil into the fuel system?

Richard

Hi Richard,

Try the following web site:

Site Link

I new about the system but not who made it so had to contact my son-inlaw who works on the big long-haul rigs. He tells me that Cummings Integrated Centinel Oil System is a retrofited system run by the engine ECM and has an oil make up resevouir tank mounted behind the cab. There is also another system made by Cummings called 'Burn-only Centinel'. This system is for smaller delivery type vehicles and does NOT top up the engine oil as it is burnt so you have to check your oil regularly.

Both systems have a 4,000 hours / 525,000 miles between oil changes and 100,000 miles between oil filter changes.

Hi again Richard, Forgot to say that there are other web sites that give far more info. Search on Cummings Integrated Centinel and variations.

we have a sewrage pipe lid thats sits right in the middle of our car port.
pull the lid off remove sump plug and go have a drink/smoke while the oil drain.
great thing is theres no mess to clean up.
just kidding but the lid is there.
i pour it into an old oil container and our local tip takes it for free

Hi,

We get rid of ours at the local tip although they still charge us for doing so.

Have a good one.

They should not charge you as waste oil is sold and used for burning in furnaces as bunkering oil. In the goldfield it is big business with the amount they collect from the mines. I am sure your local council gets paid for the oil you are charged to dump. Nav.

Maaate ! We're talking Gold Coast City Council here. They charge for EVERYTHING !I took 4 rims to the tip. $4 each to "dump", so the recycling people could re sell them half an hour later.
In 20 years I've rarely seen a summer without water restrictions for the residents. Now that's good management, isn't it ?
I could go on, but the locals know the story. There are probably worse councils, but I haven't heard of many.

Nav 8,

We live in Logan city halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and we are charged for everything we take to the tip.

Brian, the Logan tip does charge a general dump fee but doesn't charge any extra to dump your oil (Mt Cotton Transfer station)

John,

We just took some down a few weeks ago to Mt Cotton and they charged us.

Maybe it is the luck of the draw who is working at the gate on the day hey?

Have a good one.

Footloose,

I've been on the Gold Coast for 4 years. When you say "The locals know the story"
you're right.
The local rags, the bulletin and the sun seem to stalk that council, it certainly is embattled. I stopped reading the bulletin as it is too disturbing. I buy the courier mail instead, they havn't discovered the gccc yet!

I live at Mt Cotton and have never been charged to dump anything. And I have been told that I can dump up to 20L of oil in the recycle tank free.

So every oil change in the 80 I just take it to the tip and it's all sorted.

I thought that the Redland tips only charged it your didn't live in the council or were a commerical business.

Chucky,

The Mt Cotton tip opposite the crematorium on Mt Cotton Road is not a Redlands tip but is run by Logan City Council.

Must have just been bad luck for us as the guy charged us for dumping used engine oil.

I will query it if they try to do it next time.

I live in the estate that backs onto the crematorium.
The logan dump is closer to me and I went there once but they wanted to charge me nearly twenty bucks for a trailer load. I turned around and drove to the Redland bay tip and got rid of it for nothing. And they are only 5 mins apart from each other
I go to the tip at the other end of Valley way, Near where German church rd meets Redland bay road.
And it's free there.

Store it up, mix 50:50 with creosote and paint the fence posts etc to give the white ants something tasty to chew on. Works well.

I buy my oil locally from Oil World. They also take the old oil back. Tip the empty container into a big storage tank which then gets recycled.
Cheers, Tony.

Yep, strain it through an old pillow slip, mix in a bit of caustic soda and then sell it back to you LOL

I take mine to the tip - what's left after using it to feed the white ants on the fence. Don't have to pay, or if I'm supposed to, no-one has stung me for the $$.

Cheers

Being a mechanic myself and knowing that workshops have waste tanks that are periodically pumped out for burning oil, i thought on our planned trip next year i will have to service the cruiser during the trip. I thought put the old oil in used containers and drop off at a workshop, they should be responsible enough to pour it into their waste tanks, if they are closed leave the bottles at the front door with a note, complimentary waste oil, please dispose of. They might be a bit dirty about the gift but should dispose of it thoughtfully.

What is wrong with you lot???

ALWAYS buy your oil at Supercrap on a Sunday.

Go home, do oil change and pour oil back in the empty bottle you just used.

Take it back to Supercrap and tell the nice 17 yo girl at the counter that you got the wrong oil and need a refund.

Of course offer and insist upon taking it back to the shelf for her for being a pain and asking for a refund....

Simple.

I just wish I had the balls to do it......
