that pump on the back of the alternator is a vacuum pump, usually, i have never seen under the hood of a navara, but why would you want to by-pass this???

westBob seems to be trying to save horsepower. But what the hell that has to do with improving the braking I'm not sure.

The vacuum pump at the back of the alternator supplies the vacuum for the brake booster. If the vanes in this pump are worn you will have low vacuum and will in turn affect the brakes. The other reason for low vacuum can be low oil pressure in the engine as the vanes in the pump are forced out to the cylinder wall by the oil pressure. If the vanes are not seating on the wall low vacuum is the result. This used to be a problem in the old Toyota 2H engines and was fixed by an increase in the pressure of the oil pressure relive valve spring, either one could be your problem.. Nav.

If you really must dispense with the alternator driven vacuum pump then you can fir an electric vacuum pump available from any good performance
shop.
The doof doof hoon hoon boys usually mount them in the boot. Somewhere between the sixty seven stacker CD Drive and the super dooper sub sub sub woofer and their spare backwards facing baseball cap and crutch down at the ankle baggy shorts.
