Quite often I see Members ask for info about air suspensions , I was over at K&N this afternoon to have the LED tail-lights replaced because one had ceased to work and the other was only half so they replaced free of charge,
Anyhow i noticed a brochure on air bags and seen it had a web site so here it is

When we did the big trip round the block in 1999, we came across "The Airbagman" who was doing a trip around to see how well they went on a 'Cruiser in the rough stuff. He was evaluating whether to set up to sell them then.

Nice to see that he stayed witrh it, and the product must be good enough to have stayed on the market for 7 years.

have a set on the back of the Troopy I like them cheaper (maybe) then new springs

But the main advantage is you can adjust the for different loads

How are you , I didn't give airbags a thought when i got the OMEs fitted in Rockhampton a couple years back , I had to do something quick because the leaf springs were done anyhow on both ends so maybe airbags might have been like using a band-aid ,I might add that the heavy duty leaf's on the rear perform brilliant on the dirt ,
How long have you had yours and do the perform ok on the rough.

I fitted the Firestone airbags to my troopy having seen them setup on John's rig. All up about $400 from the States and a little bit of fabrication work to get them fitted. Couldn't be happier!! Kit No 2115 from memory. Cheers

Gotta be honest. We had a certain well-known brand fitted to our (previous) Jackaroo & towed an off-road CT into the Kimberleys, and SW NSW outback etc. We had dreadful trouble with the air lines popping off the top of the bags. Had longer supply lines fitted etc. 3 times repaired/re-connected all to no avail. Dumped them eventually in Wagga Wagga where they fitted slightly stronger slightly taller rear springs instead, at a lower cost than the airbags, & were as happy as larry.

I know where your coming from ,the theory looks good , feels good, works good ...until.The old leaf spring and the later coils have been proven , My old 1962 EK Holden had both and never let me down and it took a hammering on the Nullabor and right around up to Darwin 1967.
Now you might remember the Hydralastic Suspension BMC used on the Austin 1800, Morris 1100 and one of the Mini models, it gave a fantastic ride and Dads 1800 took the Brewwarrina corrugations in it's stride but some people had trouble with one side loosing oil and I seen a few cars getting along with one side dropped.
Now I've seen Lancruiser traybacks with 2 to 4 200ltr drums on and they carry it ok, now I have taken notice of the difference in the size of the pack on my Troopy with OME , the pack is nearly half again as thick and the car is not rough to ride in on the dirt,But like everything there advantages and disadvantages and one learns to accept what you got,
On parting i see the little pic of your 4x4 .....nice car, air-con'..so whats the story

Doug,

I fitted Firestone airbags to the back of the cruiser a few years back and have had no problems whatsoever.

The ability to adjust ride height as the load varies from the start of a trip when you usually have "duck's disease" until the end when you are much lighter is great and any fears I had about limited suspension travel were ill founded.

Set springs simply don't have the same ability to level loads.........

Doug just put a set in yesterday in the 100 series cost 295 .00 and took us just under 2 hours to fit them. The mate bought his from tjm the pink ones and the hoses and fittings are not as good as the Firestone. the bags are blue on the firestones the fittings are far superior and we put the valves in where the jack sits just made up a small bracket, they definitely make a difference Dags
