Hi howesy
Had a 2.8 Rocky 10 years ago, it was one of the most trouble free vehicles I have ever owned. Up to 200ks I had only replaced shocks and the water pump, and that I suspect was due to a previous owner running straight water in the radiator
Cheers Pete

Yeah like Pete above, good little trucks. I had a problem with the transfer case dropping it's oil into gearbox and crapping the transfer case on two occasions. Whether that is common or just an isolated incidence in my truck, I have no idea. Other than that, 2inch body blocks and 33's no probs. I went too far and put 3 inch body blocks in and had all sorts of extra hassles but the 2 inch works fine from all reports.
Only sold mine when the young fella come on the scene and we needed the 4 doors.

Cheers Trevor.

I agree with previous comments , a great little bus would be even better with four doors. I purchased a 1992 model in 1996 with 77k on the clock and sold it 9 yrs later with 292k on the clock. In that time we went all over WA and it never let us down.
Early in the piece I had a noisey transfer case that was fixed under warranty (spiggot bearing) and i had to replace the water pump but other than general wear an tear it was all go. Some one once said "they are built like a tank and unfortunately ride like one", I think models after 92 came out with a slightly wider track and independant suspension which made all the differance. Prior to a trip to the Kimberley in 03 I fitted new shockies and had the springs reset which made a big difference to the ride.

Yeah I had a 1994 version which was the wide track version with rear coils and torsion bar IFS. The motor also had a factory intercooler in that model. Bloody brilliant thing it was, I too only sold it when my little girl was born because we needed the 4 doors. The only problem I ever had with it was the glow plugs bleep themsevles at about 130k and it was rough at starting until I replaced them. Other than that an breakable very capable machine.

G'day,

we've had an f50 and a rocky in the family, ditto the above comments.

On thing we did to both of them was install levelling tubes between the gearbox and transfers, as the daihatsu's eat top seals and draw the oil out of the transfer case with regular monotony ending up in a $2k fix. Well worth doing considering the above comments.

Parts are expensive - but so are most other brands.

Enjoy.

Yeah, as was a problem with the Toyota's of the same vintage (most likely because Toyota own Daihatsu and most of the parts shared a similar design, if not identical).

I found by using hilux filters instead of a "rocky" filters etc I managed to keep the costs down, they were the same anyway. The 2.8 in the lux was not that different to the 2.8 in the rocky.
