Yeah yeah, I know.....Poeppel. I realised, as I was typing, that my little girl would be standing at playgroup waiting for her father who was busy playing on the web.........so had to exit in a rush.

In dry weather, its a very easy run - don't need 4wd - takes about 4 hours.
In the wet, it gets very greasy, and you have to check that the
Warburton Creek crossing is open (it would be dry at present).

Hi Toytruck
As Phil said, it is a very track when dry. It is a interesting way into the Simpson. The sand colour starts off white like beach sand, and the further north you travel, you will notice the sands getting darker.
There are many fine
camping spots the further north you get on the K1 Line amongst the Gidgee.
Make sure you drop your tyre pressure as you enter the French Line for the last kilometres to
Poeppel Corner.
Cheers
Stephen

We did it in 2002 and it was a dry year. The main obstacle is the the actual
Warburton Crossing. For many years prior to 2002 it has been wet and closed as a result. It was only reopened in 2002 I think. Since then it has been wet again only once I think, so its not that common, and it will get plenty of publicity if closed. As others have said this is a great route - white
sand dunes, white salt lakes and lots of camels. quite a lot of junctions and not all signed, so suggest you have a gps/oziexplorer. Enjoy!

Michelle,
thanks for the info. I am running Ozi and GPS etc so no probs there. I am considering a round trip including this area and
the Painted Desert. From the comments received on this thread it sounds as though there are some contrasting landscapes along this track so should be a good trip. I may try to tie this in with the opening of the
Mount Dare Hotel in May next year
Cheers
