How does the 1990 Toyota wagon stack up reliability wise against other years of the wagons. I know you get what you pay for but generally what probs did they exhibit or were they a good work horse. Donk size recomended, turbo, MPG comments etc would be gr8.

Grrr!!!

Doggie

Is it a 60 series run out or and early 80 series?

If it is an 80 series remember that Nissan had their model on the road 12 months before.

My experience is never to buy a vehicle at the start of a production run as there are usually many teething problems(should be fixed by now though...lol). Buy a vehicle from the middle of the production run to the end. Last model vehicles are usually the best.

Yeah if its an 80, probebly not the best model.Had poorly rated suspension/handling issues(no big deal to fix though),T/D engine had big end issues(even though most likely fixed by now) and the 4.olt??? petrol is a guzzler(carb).Better to look from 94 on.

Like Nick says, the post '92 models had 16inch wheels, better brakes, suspension, and the much better 4.5 litre petrol motor.

But a 1990 model is now 16 years old and could have anything wrong with it - so reliability is variable according to how its been treated/maintained. If you're not familiar, then an inspection by a specialist 4wd workshop will be well worth the money. If getting a 1990-94 factory TD, enquire about the big end bearings, and factor in some $$ for their replacement if you drew a blank look.

As Phil says, they are 16 years old now. I own a 1990 80 series standard diesel wagon with 480000 km on it and have only replaced the clutch and supension so far. If you are handy and prepared to get your hands dirty by keeping up the maintanance you can get years of troublefree service out of them. Mine still drives like a newer car, no rattles, nothing falls off etc. I love the old beast.
Cheers, Udo
