The suspension in our 1998 GU Patrol requires a bit of an overhaul. The mechanic mentioned that the rubber bushes are starting to develop splits. Does anyone have any recommendations.

Stick with genuine or at least rubber bushes as replacements.

May I ask, what bushes was the mechanic talking about?

It could be the bushes at either end of the shockies? Or the 4 castor bushes (front end) or the upper or lower trailing-arm bushes (rear end)? or it could possibly be the bushes in the front &/or rear Panhard Rods? or, on the front, there is also the possibility that the trailing arm bushes could be shot? So many bushes to choose from.....

Obviously I am not very mechanical, but the mechanics reports says...
Splits developing in front radius arms (suspension to front differential housing) bushes.

I have replaced suspension bushes with nolathane bushes (hard compound rubber/plastic) on previous 4WD's and IMO found them to be excellent, does any one have a difference of opinion?

Hi Semps, I agree with Robin on this. Urethane will last longer in your raidius arms but will not flex like the original rubber ones. Don't know if you have a lift... if not, you may find it tricky to find non-offset (caster correction) urethane bushes anyway. Genuine are from memory @ $50 per (x4)= @ $200!!! Yikes!... been there, done that, gunna have to do every couple of years too!
