My Tirfor 516 has been great. Over the last 8 years - no complaints whatsoever. But that was with a Prado - and I never used it except in practice.
Now I have a Troopy with no electric winch. Probably weighs 3 tonne
The Tirfor might be equally great with the Troopy if I never have to use it
But given that I might have to use it, am I placing to much faith in it?
What's your experience with Tirfor performance limits?
Cheers All
Chris

I'd use it in conjunction with a snatch block to halve the load and make it a bit easier on the effort level.
Cheers Kev

As Kev said, need a snatch block - we've pulled a 3500kg LandCruiser out of a
creek bed with a T516 - had two on a bar as
well, but the Tirfor was fine.
I also moved from a Prado to a 79series. I was reluctant to get a winch in the Prado, but the extra weight is not an issue with the 79series.

I don't know what model Tirfor is a 516 but I have shifted mill shells with a Tirfor using a series of snatch blocks. What you must not do is use a length of pipe on the actuator only the manufacturer's handle

The shear pins in the handle levers would break before you overload the tirfor and from memory are painful to replace. Probably cause I've got fat fingers from hitting them with the hammer at work.

I pulled my previous old 75 troopy out of axle deep mud with my Tirfor winching from star stakes. I've also got an extension cable and drag chain. Sparky

Thanks to all. Was very worried that Tirfor was no longer a solution.
HOWEVER... I bought the tirfor 2nd hand with no manual
Silly questions: Where is the shear pin located? Where are the spares in the handle and how do I get to them?
Cheers to all
Chris
