Joining a club ia a great way to go. Check out the clubs in your area, and find one that does the sort of 4wding you want to do. Some are family friendly touring clubs, some are modified truck/competition clubs. Test them out by going on a trip or two before you decide.
I dn;t know how up to date it is, but Aus clubs are listed here... www.4wdonline.com/Clubs/Au/

We run a few exploroz trips around the year, and welcome one and all, its really a great way to get out into the bush, and relax, so maybe u could slip into one of those trips, keep your eyes open here for one that near.
Other than than try a club as suggested above

Most clubs will request you have some of your own recovery gear so you should allow for that.
Usually the minmum would be a a recovery rope and shackles some recovery points on the vehicle,a compressor , 2 way radio and
tools applicable to your vehicle.
Check with the club for details. Maybe attend one of their planning meetings to see if you click with the other members.

On the subject of recovery gear I am sure most clubs will over look their usuall requirments for gear and will loan gear, so you can see if its really your thing and then request it as part of
membership,
Well thats how our club does it. Its a bit off putting saying come along but it will cost you $X in gear to do it..
Good luck with the search for a club
Cheers Stefan

Hi Glenda,
I don't know of any clubs in particular near you but the links the others have given should help there. I think the Watagans SF would be a good place to start to learn what your car can do, even solo, as it is not terribly difficult if you stick to the main
trails (unless it's been raining, then it can be REAL SLIPPERY). Most weekends it will be chockas of 4wd's, meaning you're not far from help if needed also.
Enjoy your new found freedom.
Regards, Trevor.

What you can do and where you can go is going to depend on what you have used as a description of "4WD". Most of the lightweight "softroaders" will not tolerate much more than a graded muddy road or firm sand.
What sort of vehicle is it?

Glenda
There are many clubs throughout NSW and I feel you need afamily friendly one by the sound of it. Try this.
www.4wdnsw-act.asn.au
The link above is to 4WD NSW & ACT they are the official body for clubs and have listings on all clubs that are affiliated.
Good luck in your search.

Hi there, do a search for Central Coast 4 wheel drive club. I was a member on and off for about 6 years before moving over here to WA. We are here for 3 years and then will probably head back east and once again join that club. Great bunch of people and many good trips with plenty of helpful advice. They do have a website and used to meet monthly at Charmhaven but I believe that the meeting place has now changed. You should get some contact details if you do a search. if not let me know and Ill see what I can dig up for you.
regards
Richard
