Well, now that I have got your undivided attention, has anyone fitted a Exhaust
temp sender to the turbo diesel, don't want to be drilling any more holes !!!!!!!!
Back to ( Patrol v Landcruiser ) , just turned over 6500K's and best L/100
around 10 and worst 13. Very happy with that 95km/h seams to be the best.
Very happy with vehicle but will be more happy with a load on the back.
Fit out finished and now waiting for new slide on camper. First trip will be to
Inskip point (beach
camping) to try out the skinny tyres!!!!!!!!

Hi there Al, cant answer your question, but mate thats one big mother fu@ker trailer your towing there. I reckon they must be one of the best toyota's they ever made the one you have, I reckon if toyota made them in a dual cab but with the same length tray they'd be one awsome vehicle for the outback. Good luck with your new slide on trailer. Regards Steve M

Thanks Steve
The trailer is normaly towed behind a F250 V8 dual cab. It holds my daughter inlaw's
drag car and my grandson's 1/2 size drag car. Just using my truck to move it.
It weigh's just under 3000 kg. My son has just brought a LC 78 troop carrier with
turbo an said it should be able to tow it ok.
Regards
Al

Al,
I don't think too many people would commonly fit one to the factory TD 79series because theres not a problem there.
Different story with an aftermarket TD.
I bet you can't wait to get the Innovan!!
When I slipped the canopy onto
mine, I lost about 1.5 l/100k on the highway, but some of that may have been tyres too. Off the main raods, its pretty good - eg we used 94 litres from
oodnadatta to
Birdsville last August which was 10% better than the other vehicles in our group.
The skinnys will go fine provided you air them down enough.

Phil
We found the best economy on the trip to melb was to sit on 95km. ( in more ways than one ) we picked a fine on the way home when we were sitting on 100 +
My son found that I was running the pressures to low also so now looking for a more reliable guage. Will have to be very accurate when fully loaded.
Regards Al.

have one fitted to my GQ with 2.5 exhaust, drilled hole in top of exhaust and through a stainless clamp which holds sender in the exhaust, works really
well have had no probs over 100,000 ks, have been told not to weld bracket to exhaust as they end up cracking at the weld. also guage is great for fuel efficiency cooler u keep it the better the economy. Col

Thanks for that Col.
Hate to drill any more holes.
We will see how we go with the fully loaded truck when we do some trial's on the
sand. see if we have any over heating.

Had to drill a big hole in the shiny new tray to take the
water filler as the
tank is bolted up under. Holes also for air lines and power to compressor and camper connection. I guess it's not going to be new forever so a few more holes if necessary
won't hurt.

I fitted one to my TD maverick (3' inch exhaust) Ended up puttin it just after the dump pipe. Unfortuately you pretty much have to drill a hole Big Al, but it's only a small one, if that's any consolation (7mm what i remember)...
You just have to watch that the turbo could be up to 100degree C hotter than the pyro is reading... obviously depends on where you position the sender.
I'll take a pic tonight of it & post it tomorrow.
Cheers,
Ben

Thanks for that Ben,
By the way,my son has just sold our old 90 model SWB Mav. It just about paid for all the new gear on the new truck. just over $5k . Our first nissan (early 70's was a ex PMG troop carrier) dropped a 283 chev into it and was just about unstoppable.
It too picked up a few dints.

Al, nice rig you got there... you're not wrong, i love the old g60's, would've gone alrite with a small block chev in it. That's the plan for
mine, once/if the motor gives up the ghost. Looking at the possibilties, had a bit of read on marks4x4 conversions... they do a gen 3 conversion into gq's now, how sweet would that be?
I might even sell
mine and get the new troopy coming out next year. Twin turbo 4.4L V8 diesel... there's a bit of speel about it in editorial of the latest 4x4 australia mag... we can all dream!!!
That's the problem with gq's now, they're rapidly dropping in price.
Anyway, I've loaded 3 more pics into my gallery. One of the location of the sensor & the other 2 are the pyro & boost gauges, one pic of them off & the other of them on.
Have a good one Al,
Ben
P.S. Nice truck!!!
