Hi All
First of all forgive me for I know bugger all about caravans. But... I have bought a 1987 Ultralite to take the kids up to Steve Irwins Zoo in Qld...the only consideration I gave when purchasing was that it had bunks and was affordable for an 87' Problem is, I have just discovered there is a cracked Brack Drum and I am seriously struggling to find a replacement as they are no longer made.....please please please any suggestions??? We have already cancelled our trip and the kids are devestated...we have another trip planned in December...I don't want to cancel that too!!!

Oops...spelling error....that should have read 'cracked brake drum' also, the drum is a 5 stud, 8", beehive shaped type...just incase anyone has one laying around the backyard :)
Cheers

If you have the drum in your hand I suggest taking it to a "Brake" repairer. I'll wager that they would have something that will fit, I saw a stack of drums without any mounting holes and unfinished interiors so I'm guessing that you are not the first person the experience the problem and that one of these
places can 'Make" one to fit... Might be best if you replace both with new shoes machined to fit. They are override brakes are they not? The crack could have occured not through heat but by being slammed on hard on an icy morning as warm cast iron is more ductile than cold or being left on hard and the drum freezing & cracking...
Now follows a lengthy dissertation on why the Titanic sank. Had the steel used in the construction not had manganese in it it would have not have suffered the damage the hull suffered in
water around 3 degrees, the steel was rendered brittle by the temperature... simple. Oh the Tianic would have at some stage sunk anyway as the manganese in the hull steel would, through the vibrations transmitted to it, workhardened, even the smallest ding may have caused failure...

Ok! - So ----------- does that explain the differing
views about cruisers and patrols, engels and waeco's and the ever present fuel saving devices?

I suspect so... If Bills was around he would, I'm sure, amplify the details...

I dont know what state you are in but if its Qld, Nsw or Vic. try the link below
www.alko.com.au/
They supplied the ultralite components to Viscount including axles and brakes. I would be quite surprised if they cannot help you in some way.
On Patrol.
