HI.
The wife started her suby up yesterday in a car
park, and imediatley got a strong whiff of fuel. Luckily she had the good sense to ring me, and i went down to have a look. They have a steel cannister type filter and one of the rubber fuel lhoses on the outlet side had worked loose. It was spraying fuel all over the top of the ALTERNATER.!! The hose clamp was tight but the hose was loose, shrinkage over time i suppose. Its an area that could be improved on, The whole car
park could have gone up. Replaced all clamps and hoses after that one!.
Cheers Axle.

Back in 1988 I came across a
young lady running around her Suby yelling out, "Help! My F**king car's on fire!
Under the bonnet was a mass of flames with the spare tyre starting to go up!
And it was caused by the exact same problem. We put it out with a garden hose (all we could find at the time) I often wondered it that was a common thing to happen!
Cheers

Hi Axle
I have owned a few Subarus in my time and have never heard of that being a problem, EXEPT on "any brand" older car. Maintanance could be more the issue then.
Had an old 2000ltr cortina once that spat the metal fuel pipe out of the pump body onto a red hot manifold, that was interesting. Ford had a recall on them some years earlier and replaced the fuel pump and lines under the recall even though the car was a zillion years old when it happened.

I remember back in the 70's often seeing TC/TD cortinas at the side of the road with charred bonnets. Now I know why :-)
