Is anybody running a
suspension seat in a GU?
I've just spent a bit of time researching on Google and it seems most only cater for prime movers etc.
I used to have a KAB
seat base in my GQ and it was great......but alas the GU has an all-in-one
seat set-up (unlike the GQ had) and I cannot simply bolt the KAB base under the GU's
seat.
Any ideas anybody
Cheers and thanks in advance,
Roachie

Perhaps try an Auto trimer and get them to rebuild the existing seats with more support and padding.
Just a idea.

Bill,
I asked all the 'brand names' why I should buy their
seat for my 'Trol. None had a convincing reason. I sat in all these seats for as long as possible, attempting to see where they would hurt after 8 hours in the saddle. A feature I disliked of most, was the back-rest side bolsters, which grabbed me around the kidneys. Did not like the bolsters on the
seat squab (the part ya bum sits on) much either - made entry & exit too difficult , IMHO.
I ended up at Willshires on South Rd (who also sell recaro seats). For $ 500 they re stuffed the
seat & I kept the balance of the ~ $ 2,000 the 'brand name' seats were asking.
Cheers

In 1988 I had a Pajero "Superwagon" on which both front seats were
suspension seats. The amount of bounce could be adjusted and they could also be locked in from memory three different heights. As
suspension seats went they were top quality. However, after the initial novelty of floating around,
mine was locked into my preferred position.

Hi Roachie,
Only place I came across with
suspension seat ready to go into GU was Opposite Lock. They called it a turbo commercial
suspension seat but it will set you back a little shy of 2 Grand. Then you still should get it complianced and fitted on top of this price.
Hope it helps. Trevor.

Our
heritage listed Paj has
suspension seats as described above. Perhaps you could score one from a wreckers and try it out? They are quite comfy and SWMBO who has a bad back finds them good for long and bumpy trips.

Thanks everbody.......the ideas (
well, most of 'em...lol) are all good. As I said, I have had
suspension seating before and reckon it's the ducks guts. Most of the websites I've checked out have a large pedestal under the
seat and this would make the seating position too high. I did jury-rig the old KAB base up with a GQ
seat on top not long after I bought the Patrol, but even then seating position was just that little bit too high.
Thus, my question was more directed at anybody who might currently have a GU equipped with such a system? Judging by the responses to date, the answer (on this
forum at any rate), would appear to be "NO".
Cheers to all......
Roachie

Roachie,
Question answer, No I dont but I did look in to it fairly
well last year.
Stratos seats make a rear
suspension unit and
seat to suit the GU. As you indicated it has to be a complete unit inc
seat belt bits
Downside, apart from huge cost, is that it steals a fair bit of leg room as the
seat has to be mounted further fwd to make it all sit on the original mounts.
Guys there seemed genuine and talked me out of this option as I am on the rear most position on the
seat rails already
Cheers
JR

JR.... same here mate...
seat has to be as far back as possible for me to get my legs in place without hitting the bottom of the dash. Also, we have lads that aren't getting any smaller as the years go by, so I don't want anything that will take away from the leg-room in the back
seat either (which I reckon the Stratos system would do as it has the mechanism sitting behind the
seat-back).
Cheers mate

try the isringham seats(spelling could be wrong) there at Victoria rd Smithfield NSW. They have many different models & bases all RTA approved, have found that they are the best in harsh conditions on the craft we build as a lot of Gov dept now must have them fitted as a part of OH&s & have found them very helpful. did try one in my old Gq and never got use to it & went back to the stratos's
