Hi
Found oil leak when I arrived home tonight from 200kms off road and then hi way trip.
Lots of oil spread on driver’s side from rear of underneath of front diff to cross member near gear box. Many drops on the cross member and many other drops underneath on engine sump etc etc. Floor and chassis covered in oil
Looks as though it is dripping from low down on drivers side engine block
Any suggestions?
Engine oil level is still OK but I am pretty certain it is engine oil.
Regards
Phil

Maybe a small hole or split in the sump from the off-roading?
Good luck

I thought the front engine oil seal is the usual culprit.

Phil,
Hard to say; best thing to do is clean the whole area with a good engine degreaser and then check underneath very regularly to see if you can see a leak. It's common for them to develop a slight leak from the front crank seal area (just above the front of the sump).
Mine has a slight weep in that area, a few drops every couple of weeks. I've never worried about it, nothing a rag won't fix.
The other thing is if you've just had an oil change, the collector/drain box underneath the filter could still be holding a bit of residual oil and this is draining through the drain pipe spitting oil all over the place, but this is on the passengers side.
Hope you find the source,
Rob

Hi
Thanks for your replies. I have just dropped it into Mr Nissan.
It is not leaking from the front crankshaft seal or the oil filter drip tray drain.
My guess is that it is the rubber hose on the cylinder head oil return pipe.
Cheers
Phil
