A quick question for those that have driven to the top of Mt Stirling.
On the weekend we set off for
the summit from Craigs Hut and got as far (about 1km) as the road closure
sign.
My question is - does the track get any worse further up or does it stay about the same?
This was our first go on a rugged (for us anyway) track and as we would like to go back again to reach the top we are wondering how we would fare?
Which is the harder track - from Craigs or Howqua?
Thanks for your help

You can't actually drive to the top of Mt Stirling any more but you can get close and the
views are magnificent.
The track gets no harder, right over the higest point and down to the other side..
Its much harder to drive from the circuit road up to Mt Stirling via momument track than via Craigs hut.
Took a few vehicles up via momunent couple of weeks ago , and all but the stiff
suspension vehicles (Tray cruiser and Tray Nissan ) were able to make it without assitance over the rocky ledges

Thanks Robin
I have been to
the summit many times (both snow season and on foot) and I know my kids would love the
views from up there - as we are novice 4WDers I was a bit worried that if the track got harder we might be in trouble, but you have made me feel more confident.
As an aside I love the fact that I can ask novice questions on this
forum and get good, sensible advise.
The last thing we need is some gung-ho advise that it is all easy, so your tip that the track is no harder is most welcome.
Thanks again

Hi Ian
It is wonderful, and I appreciate it. We all need
to ask novice questions in some field or other at
some time.
Just last week after a stuff up a bike
shop removed
a non-removeable pressed-in jet out of our bike
with the final race coming up this weekend.
They left me with 1 unacceptable option, buy a new $2000
carbie.
I decided to make a jet which required, amongst other
things, the drilling of a hole 0.2mm in diameter which
is
well below what you can buy in drills.
Boy, did I need to educated fast !
