Hi All,
went into Fremantle yesterday along Rockingham Rd, about half way there a guy towing a fair sized boat had his son in the back and the daughter {about 10 Y/O} was lying along the bow laughing, looked at the Mrs and she too couldn't believe it, needless to say if he had to brake that kid would have gone straight of the front and under the wheels !!! this would have to be the most stupid thing I've seen, no wonder the kids dont give a s##t when you've got parents like that, what a role model they make, and of course I didn't have the mobile to phone the cops or believe me I woud've, what a TUBE.............................

That had the very real potential to cause something very unpleasant. It is a shame that people like this are allowed the previllage of oxygen.

Mind you, perhaps the kids smelt like fish, I wouldnt want that smell in my car ;)

When I was working on a charter boat in the SW, guy pulled his boat up from the Port Geographe boat ramp, turned too sharp hitting the ramp divider and rolled his boat off the trailer. this was the first day that he didnt allow the kids to ride on the boat as he pulled it out of the water. Very lucky

Yep Al,
You've got it in one!

There's at least some form of cursory testing for a drivers licence, but parenting?

Geoff.
Geoff,

Grey hair is hereditary, you get it from children. Baldness is caused by watching the Wallabies.

perhaps off topic but reminded me of the idiot who reversed his big expensive
trailer boat down the ramp at Blacksmiths (Newcastle) at speed, hit the chocks
& spilt it straight onto the concrete, made a sound like when you drop a watermelon!!!..a rather sad looking chap then winched it back on, picked up the fibreglass pieces & drove off slowly, to quite a bit of unwelcome applause.
No bloody camera of course....oldbaz.

not as stupid as your one but i did say to the mrs geez thats one of the stuppidest things ive seen
driving through a shopping centre car park this guy in a van in front of us just stops dead in the middle of the round about to let out his wife and son.
took his mrs a good minute or so to get out she was huge(i dont meen it to ofend)
then when they had got out of the van he was heading of to the right on the round about. while he was stopped the cars coming from the front of him were just driving through but when he went to leave there was a car coming and he had to slow down(he had driven 6 inches)then proceded to go balsitic at this person for not giving way and giving his horn a big work out.
then he drove a whole 10 feet and parked his car in a car park.
of course the mrs blew the horn and again away he went in a fit of rage.
unbelevable

Noimnunoeruno,

This phrase of yours,,,,,,,,,,"she was huge(i dont meen it to ofend) ",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I put this subject up as a starting point in my war on FAT people. I reckon we should not be afraid ti call 'em what they are - FAT.

Now I know this is 'off topic' but it's something I've been thinking about for a few months. Why should we be afraid to offend FAT people?

For 40 odd years I was a smoker and had it rammed up me every day by every form of media and by people in general, that I was "offensive, a hazard, dangerous, costing the health system millions, unproductive and a nuisance in general" etc, etc.

Now we have a FAT EPIDEMIC and these FAT PEOPLE are almost all of the above. Why should we be afraid to offend them by actually calling 'em FAT? I hate the word "obese" as it seems to hide the term FAT. Is this political correctness at work, I muse?

They will eventually cost us all millions in medical problems, They use more of the worlds resources - bigger knickers, bigger T shirts, they eat more food, they cost more to transport, they wear out load bearing structures quicker, they slow things up, they aren't efficient, etc,etc

Why should I pay the same price for an air ticket when I weigh 65 kilos when a FAT person pays the same price as me and yet it costs twice as much to get him/her off the ground!!

Offend em I say!

Just my 10 cents worth, :)

Never thought of it like that.... I spose most people who are F.A.T. are that way from putting it in their mouth and not being healthy,,,, so i can see your point...
Another self inflicted problem like smoking which leads to millions of tax payers dollars trying to treat the deseases which are an offshoot from being overweight..

All I can say is that smokers pay for the health system, fat people don't. Do a little research into how much smokers in Australia add to the government revenue before claiming that they cost non-smokers anything. The only reason smoking is NOT illegal in countries like Australia is because the government could not afford to lose the revenue it provides.

Tobacco excise and customs revenue

Excise

$5.247b actual for 2003-04

$5.237b actual for 2004-05

The average smoker pays more in excise revenue than they do in Income tax.

Also, the average smoker most likley uses less government supplied pention money as they won't live as long! ;-)

The government actually makes more profit from the sale of cigarettes in Australia than the cigarette companies themselves!

So are there any non-smokers out there putting their hands up to make up that 5 BILLION $ Deficit? I don't think so....

Anyway, now onto FAT, and why people are cautious about calling people FAT.

My step father is a quite large man, has been struggling with his weight for many years now. He has an exercise machine(s) and uses them, he has speant thousands of dollars with different specialists trying to get his weight down.

Yes there are people who are just lazy, but there are genetic issues involved too. I'm lucky, I don't seem to suffer from a weight problem, but I know a couple of people who are more active than me, share the same lifstyle and who still gain weight.

I'd also like to say that we have a friend of the family who is as skinny as a rake, WAS a non smoker, fit , active, had a good diet and had a heart attack at age 40. Then another one, and I think he has had 3 now.

He's now a smoker and drinks like a fish. He figured bugger it, it's going to get him anyway! You don't have to be fat to have health problems...

I got to say, probably not the smartest thing in the world, he possibly didn’t relies that he daughter was where she was.

If they were both sitting in the back on the floor I couldn’t rely care, I have done this a few times when it has been a short trip from the ramp, I have ridden in the back of Ute’s a lot in the country out on the hwy going between farms before it was made illegal and have sat on roof racks when going slowly along a bush track, hung off the side of the 4By when going a short distance down the beach, and to be perfectly honest I don’t see a problem with it, It’s your life it’s your choice.

" I got to say, probably not the smartest in the world, he possibly didn’t relies that he daughter was where she was." I take it you meant "He possibly didn't REALISE"

"It’s your life it’s your choice" No it wasn't, it was his daughter's life, and at 10yo she's not smart enough to know better.

Yep - they are everywhere - we had spent 1 plus hours crawling up a spur in LR 2nd stuff - in Vic High country to emerge onto the fire track and there they were in LC GXL, four adults inside and three kids on the roof rack waiting to go down!

Quite apart from the dangers of this, bad examples being set etc etc in WA it is against the law to allow anybody to ride in the back of utes in trailers and that includes boats. We shudder at some of the things you see parents letting their children do whist they are driving along

Cheers

An acquaintance of mine had her 2 kids on the back of the ute. Was fined $150 for each child plus lost her licence for 6 months.
I would ring (have it on speed dial) the police and report such a thing as you saw. Might not be the Aussie thing to dob but I think of the innocent people that end up being involved when some thing goes wrong.
