Hi Folks,
last crossing of the season for us from Mt Dare on the French Line and K1 ending up in
Birdsville again then back to
Brisbane.
We spent 4 days on rescue missions before finally getting away from Mt Dare last week. The rescues were interesting, a Britz camper bogged in sand at the end of the
Spring Creek Delta bypass and a Mitsubishi Canter 5 1/2 truck on the
Rig Road 6 km from K1. Willem will recognise the country.
Next season the SCD bypass may be permanent so be prepared. Sand conditions at the K1 /
Rig Road intersection hasn't improved since the early season reports. Extreemely difficult if not impossible for trailers (that said nothing is impossible) and is not worth the damage / agravation. Even if trailers are brought up to Poeppels the sand is soft, blown with lips. The good news is that the lips seem to be going back to a traditional eastern face lip rather western side. We followed a sand storm over and
the desert was pristine if not difficult. Care should be taken early next year!
The WAA was the pick of the easy crossings earlier this month and the French Line between Colson and Erabena challenging. Between Erabena and Knolls was very rough with successive speed bumps being formed with a fresh sand.
See you all at Mt Dare next season and there will be further info on the pub opening in May 2007. Pat and I have 2 months working on Kangeroo Island till the end of January and be back at Mt Dare at
Easter.
Cheers
Ian @ Mt Dare

Hi Ian,
Recover of the Canter sounds like an adventure. Are you going to past some pictures - what was the problem - I'd been thinking of using one if there is a lot of interest in
the Desert trips for next year.
Here are some photos of the rig-road, particularly near the K1
Intersection you mentioned.
Site Link
There are some new ones for folks who saw them before, and there is one gallery Just for those wanting to look at the Support Vehicle activity and the road (follow the bottom link).
There's also a Photographer's Choice Gallery (follow the top link) with our best few in it for those who are impatient looking through the 740 odd lot of them.
We have made the watermark a little less intrusive too.
Cheers
Andrew.

Hi Ian,
All the best and it was great with our contacts with you here on EO. If you do pass through on Friday, yes I would like to catch up with you.
All the best to you and Pat and enjoy your work over on KI. Have a great Christmas, and once again, all the best.
Cheers
Stephen

Good one Ian
Drop in on your way past(if you are coming this way)
I will be doing one more desert trek next year and hopefully also doing a product test for a components manufacturer. This trek will probably go from Watburton Track to near Knolls Track on French Line to Geo Centre, then east to
Hay River Track and then to
Birdsville(or Mt Dare) depending on fuel usage. Will be towing the trailer again. Will be running MRF crossplies this trip so we shall see how they perform.
Cheers

Hi Willem,
I think I will also be running a set of MRF's next year as an additional set, and I
'm really intereseted in how they go off track.

HI again Ian
I was in touch with Connie Sue Beadell and Mick Hutton re the MRF's and on their suggestion will be getting the Super Miler 12plies. THis is basically a road tyre and according to Mick Hutton the sidewalls bag out OK when tyre pressure is reduced. It is no use having a very stiff sidewall. Anyway according to Mick they have done 30,000km with them, with good tyre wear and no punctures...and they do heaps of Off-Track stuff.
We shall see....lol
Cheers
