I have had a snorkel fitted to my 3ltr turbo Hilux and was wondering if I should cover/seal the two holes in the bottom of the airfilter housing. They have rubber thingies standard, but they look to be for allowing water to drain out. One is a bulge shaped doodad with a split in it, located at the bottom of the section where the inlet comes from the wheel arch. If water can get out, it may also get in, maybe not while moving but if you get stuck or maybe water could get sucked in.
Are there any other points for water to enter?
How do you check if the whole snorkel & air filter housing are water tight?
Do you need to put a cover over the front of the radiator when going through deep water if you have a snorkel?
Thanks

Twinkles, the 'ducks b um' seal in the housing is supposed to not let any water in but as age etc get to them, they can leak.

I blocked mine with a short piece of hose and a boat drain bung in the other end so I can drain if I need to.

You can check if the system is sealed but be very careful...remove the hat on top of the snorkle and slowly move your hand (safer with a clipboard or similar)over the top with the engine at idle. DO NOT cover it completely just to the point where you are sure it isnt sucking from some other source.

If the installer seealed all the joins with selastic then Im sure you are fine.

Oh the blind infront of the radiator is to stop the fan being sucked into the radiator when you cross the water. Helps a little if you dont have a snorkel but the other is the primary reason.
Enjoy

Matt.
