Looking for new life skills, you could try the Army. They'll even let you play with 4wds and all that stuff. Seriously though, what about your local T.A.F.E. College, or local Orienteering Clubs. Perhaps you could check with your local Scout
Shop for advice.

If you go to gpsoz and like sites they have plenty of info which will enable you to teach yourself rather than paying.
I have some information I could forward to you. Send me a member message with your email address and I will forward it to you.

How about some free light reading in the meantime:
- Geoscience Australia's Map Reading Guide: How to Use Topographic Maps (1mb)
- Garmin's GPS Guide for Beginners ==>
http://www.garmin.com/manuals/GPSGuideforBeginners_Manual.pdf (532k)
- Using a Garmin GPS with Paper Land Maps ===>
http://www.garmin.com/manuals/UsingaGarminGPSwithPaperLandMaps_Manual.pdf (note: USA focus on maps) (1.26mb)
The first link has a detailed and
well explained manual for Australian situations and is highly recommended as it contains virtually all that you may need to know at this stage.
Hope this helps....

I am a member of the Glasshouse Bushwalkers Club (based at Caboolture) and the club is about to hold a map reading and GPS skills courses in the new year. The club web-site is click here..
Other bushwalking clubs provide this training to their members on a regular basis.

Get hold of a book called GPS Vehicle navigation in Australia by Robert Pepper. Its one of the best refernces and easiest reads I have seen. I just emailed Jackie at the ExplorOz
shop to see if they still have it, I will post her reply when I get it.
