After helpful advise from this
forum- I'm opting for 16x7 one piece (Sunraysia) type rims for the Troopy. Not getting rid of the ole
grey spilts- just putting them in storage.
After doing the tyre run-a-round, which we've all done, I settled on TerraTrac A/T tyres. Very good load rating (1250kg), which is competitive and in most cases superior to the 'better known' brands. Meaty (not soft) but flexible sidewalls- good for airing down situations. Good looking A/T tread (if you squint it looks like the BFG A/T)- definately not a muddy. And solid concave edges. OK they may be maufactured in China- I understand in an American offshore arrangement.
Most of all- the price. $1k for 4 corners- rims+tyres+wheel alignment. I can't argue with that.
The only negative is that wanky white sidewall lettering.
Any comments out there on these tyre?? I will keep you updated to my observations and results!!
Keep cooool out there- and drinks lotsa
water (or beer).

Hey Bloke
Bought a set of those myself just recently and put them on my L/C 80ser, done about 1200 so far seem alright, I was told a lot of mining contractors use them on their work units, I picked
mine up for $198 ea fitted and balanced. Hopefully time will tells us we bought an OK tyre.

Yea
I can't see a problem with them being made in China. Even though there's too many rabbits in China.
Being made for the American market with American specs. would be a plus- as the Yanks are paranoid about 'Tire Standards'. I'm sure the word - Litigation- floats around boardrooms, even Tire Importers.

The main items i was impressed with is the 3ply walls, 10ply tread area and between the tread and steel belt theres an additional nylon belt to assist with keeping rocks from piercing throught to the steel belt and allowing moisture in.
Apparently

We have the A/W s on our Wizard, they done 15k and great so far. No off road work as yet, we use the MU for that it has Copper STs. We paid $150 each, can't complain about that.
Cheers Bruce.

I have also had a set of AW 265/75/16 on a 95 GQ LWB.
Only had one flat (Cut Side Wall) I managed to get around 60,000 out of them & still had plenty of tread still left. Started to get a bit noisy though.
Price wise was also good value.

Lots of logging contractors around here use them, they are about $100 cheaper than BFG's or Coopers. $1K for four seems a bit steep, my 10ply 265/75's were only $185 each, although I am told they now cost $215 each.
Expect to get around 60K - 70K out of a set, but like all tyres, punctures much more likely in the last 30% of tread life.
I did 3 weeks in the outback in May with no problems, two new tyres and two with 20K on them. Landy with us also had no problems running four new Cooper St's.
Main difference was up big red, I had to go down to 16PSI, he only let the Coopers down to 21PSI to get over.

Rolande
