Hey childos,

I believe the rims will fit, and cause no probs.... the only prob may be finding those rims! Has taken me some time to find good condition GXL steelies 2nd hand at the right price, Toyota wanted $345 per rim, for steel rims!

Rossco.

childos,

You'd need to get the GXL rims cheap, to make it worthwhile.

I bought 6 of new Brazilian made "Sunraysias"(7" x 16") for $100 each, in Winton. From my experience, the GXL rims start to crack after 200K clicks, and leak air. This was from an 80 series, and from advice given off this site, it must be quite common.

If you go the GXL way, would need to be off std wagon.

Have to be 100 series rims as they are 5 stud, anything earlier is 6 stud.
79 series are 5 stud.

Aware of the wheel stud difference, Peter.

Although the post doesn't read well, was commenting that if 80 series wheels crack, then the 100 series ones may well do so, in due course. You warned me of this fact earlier this year..

The "Sunraysias" bought were for a 79 series, not the 80. Put mags on it.

Just make sure you get the 100series GXL rims from the Rigid front end (1Hz, and 4.5l) Cruisers:

They have a different offset to the GXL IFS (TD and V8) cruisers which will not fit your 78series:

The Toyota Royale mag wheels for the rigid front LandCruisers also fit the 78series:

The other option I believe is the 16x6.5 inch rims from the RV 100series:

Finally, you can buy either 16x7 or 16x8 sunraysias.

I don't know how much travel you have done in the rough stuff up North or in rocky terrain but my advice to you would be to stick with the split rims using the right tyres and you will have far less problems with tyres---again only my opinion based on many thousand ks. using splits in the bush.
