Hello all,

I happily own and drive a 98 GU 2.8 Turbo Patrol and recently started using Biodiesel. After about 300Km's a warning light appeared on the dash (bottom far right). After looking it up it would appear there is a problem relating to the Engine Management System (EMS). Now I am presuming here that it is possibly a sensor within the system that has detected the change in my emissions, can anyone shed some light on this please. Also any suggestion on how to fix it would be appreciated.

Lastly does anyone else out there run Biodiesel in this type of 4wd and what problems have you encountered apart from the regular effects of a cleaner fuel cleaning the fuel system.

Cheers,

Brian

I have been running Gull Bio-D in my 3ltr Patrol for about 6months now, done about 15,oooklms no worries at all. I have noticed no difference in any of the motors normal characteristics.....oh and before any Toyo or 4.2 owners say anything.....the charateristic for the engine to blow is not evident either.....yet.....80,0000 klm service due next week = )

p.s.
check your fuel filter, it may be full of crap from the cleaning effect of the Bio.

Would the Engine Management light come on if the filter was blocking? Or does the fuel filter have it's own dedicated warning light?

Bio-D does tend to scour out any kerrapp that's in yer fuel lines or tanks. If you ever switch to Bio-D after years of uisng Dino-D, always have a new filter in the back of the truck.

I'd change the fuel filter fer starters and see if the light goes out.

I'm with Bilbo on this. Probs with bioD is generally always filter related.

A mate of mine has found this model is perfect for running 100% vege oil, so a bit of healthy bioD is going to be lapped up.

Why are they good for 100% vege oil?
Already has a smallish sub tank where he puts BioD or DinoD and uses this for start up and shut down.
There is a 70° temperature switch built in, which he has used to turn on the vege oil and run it through the heat exchanger.
He's even built a little sytem for filtering oil straight out of the back of the chip shop and straight into his tank for on the fly filtering and fill ups on country runs.

And doing a dedicated two tank system remains entirely legal as the excised and non excised fuels are never blended. Great setup.
