My son is planning on fitting 33x12.5 MT tyres to his GQ SWB.
He has been told that he should use Toyota rims as the offset will push the wheel out a bit more from the vehicle and prevent the tyres from rubbing on the inside of the guard on full articulation. Yes, this means the tyre will protrude further outside the guard, so he will have to add flexi flares.
Anyone got any experience with this? Will any Land Cruiser 6 stud wheel do the job, or are there different offsets that we need to be aware of?

The centre hole of the LandCruiser wheels is usually marginally smaller than the Nissan hub. It can be made to fit with the assistance of an angle grinder :-)) I've seen the Toyota splits go on a GQ.
Might want to be aware of the legalities - you're not supposed to increase track by more than 25mm. Not sure why you'd want to do it on a GQ - they have a pretty wide track anyway.

Just got my brain into gear - Toyota don't make any 15inch rims that will fit 33x12.5. The closest is the chrome 15x7 rims that came on some of the late 60series, 73series and Bundera. Maybe the 16x8 wheels that come with the 80series may be a goer with 285/75R16, but they cost the earth.

We are planning on 15x8 rims. I'd have thought there must be after market ROH / Sunraysia rims available to suit (but have not checked).

You can get 15 inch Sunraysia second hand for around $20 from 4WD wreckers here on the
Gold Coast. I need a second spare for my caravan and thats much cheaper than a new one.

Hi Norm,
I just did the exact same thing on my brothers GQ, used 80# offset 15x8 Sunraysia's fitted with 33x12.5 tyres, they fit no problems, and because of the increase in offset they look horn too.
As you mentioned, will have to fit flexi flares or similar.
Hope this helps
Cheers, Chris U

I currently own a 1991 GQ SWB which is running 33x12.5 BFG A/T's on Toyota 15x8" Sunraysia's. The only addition to my vehicle is that the previous owner has cut the guards to fit 35x12.5 M/T tyres which gives much better clearances with the 33" tyres and I also have a 2" body lift. Works
well and looks great.
