Hi folks, here's a heads up for GU owners. The shroud that attaches to the back of the radiator has two spacers that rest on the radiator to help prevent the shroud from vibrating, but today one of those spacers holed my radiator. No real reason why it decided to give way today but it has vibrated so much against the radiator it holed one of the pipes and total water loss was the result. No associated problems for me but the next person may not be so lucky.

Fixed by fixing piece of rubber to radiator with sikaflex, exactly where these spacers rub.

Low water alarm is now being ordered for my car, just in case there is a next time for me.

Cheers Trevor.

G'day mate,

Sounds like you mighta been lucky not to cook the donk. That woulda been a shame, cos then you woulda had to go to a 6.5 Chev as a replacement. hahahaha

Low water alarm is a great idea and one of the things I'll be transferring from my current rig to the new one.

Cheers

G'day mate,

Don't worry I'm not deserting the marque. I've managed to arrange a 2000 GU patrol with a cut & shut plus a lockable steel canopy (professionally made) and with a slightly different donk up front......one with a coupla extra pots and bent into a "V" shape!

Picking it up next Tuesday.

Cheers mate

The mrs aint with me and I was thinking of telling her I need a new donk anyway LOL!!!! not sure how well that would go down after the gearbox rebuild.

Sounds like the new "Roachmobile" will sound nice if nothing else. How long are you going to allow to transfer all the bells and whistles from your current rig to the new one????

Cheers Trevor.

Should only take 2 or 3 weeks if my back can stand it. I wanna change the transfer case over, but won't worry about the air locker in the front diff. Dual wheel carrier can stay on too I suppose, as I no longer have the OE rear bumper. Likewise, the LR tank and UHF in it's dashpod and the gauges will stay on the old beast and the cargo barrier.

Winch, Lightforce's, HID lights, HF radio, leccy trailer brake set-up, roof rack, AGM battery, compressors, air horns, shower, Amsoil bypass set-up, reversing camera, reverse lights, plus a few other small gizmos will all have to be moved over......... oh well, it'll be worth the effort, eh....

He really is getting a 6x6 but as yet just hasn't had any idea of how, or the intestinal fortitude required to tell SWMBO.

Bugger! how am I going to 'keep up with the Roaches' and match him on this one.

Roachie! - you are a constant source of amusement, if nothing else.

ROFLMAO

Hi Trevor R (QLD)
Nissan dealers are supposed to notify GU Patrol owners of this problem. When i had my 80000Kil. service in Grafton 7weeks ago the Nissan dealer informed me that they had to be done at the first opportunity.Apparently it has been out there for about 18Mths but they were the first ones that told me it had to be done. They did it the next day plus replaced the console lid even though it was 9Mths out of warranty I suggest that any body out there with a GU ,get into a dealer and put the pressure on.
Regards Duke

Sorry, I don't follow you. Are you saying that the moving spacer is a problem? Can you tell me what exactly I need to get up Metro about?

Thanks

The problem is the cowl around the fan rubs on the back of the radiator. They take the cowl out and fit spacers to move it back a bit to solve the problem Regards Duke

That's what bleep s me about Nissan. They know about this potentially life threatening problem and what have they done to warn me about it? NOTHING!!!
They have only had 6 years to find me and give me a letter or something. I have not moved house since I bought the truck new so you can't tell me they don't have my address.

What would have happened if this decided to happen on the Canning or in the Simpson? LIFE THREATENING. If you work in H/O please get onto this and let owners know. It's not the problem that customers will remember it's how Nissan react to problems that they will be remembered for.

Nismo, Are all GU's susceptible, or is it only a particular series or engine type

im not 100% sure but this problem was not a recall where they send a letter or they contact you it was just purely a problem that nissan knows and the nissan technician should pick up when the vehicle comes in for a service.if the tech doesnt know about the problem or doesnt see it the problem wont get fixed.a good service advicer would have picked it up when the vehicle came in.only if you have eng td42,td42t,tb45 where affected up to certain year(vin).

Thanks nismo,

Recall or not, owners of said vehicles should be contacted to prevent this from happening in a remote and potentially very dangerous place.

I know it will never happen but customers should have the option of receiving Nissan bulletins concerning their vehicle either by email for free or via post at a charge to the customer when they buy the car new.

One for your suggestion box at work. Thanks for your input on this topic.
Trevor.
