Skid
I was recently cruising along after doing some hard bush work for 5-6hrs on a hot day 35' ++ when 5th started jumping out of engagement on overrun.
Box has done 300.000 with no problems. Oil is 5000kms old Penrite and at normal level.
Next day did 400kms on bitumen without it happening again.
Have I got a upcoming problem with the gearbox?
Is this typical Troopie
warning sign?
Would apreciate any comments
Thanks

It could be that the gearbox is worn and the extra heat caused it to play up.
It could also be asign of problems with the main shaft and transfer input gear wear which will if it happens stop all forward motion.
the wear on the main shaft and input gear can be checked by removing the PTO cover on the transfer, hold the main shaft (jam it with something, wood etc) and see if you can move the input gear on the shaft, if there is any appreciable rotary movement in the splinesbetween the gear and shaft then you will need to fix it.
At 300k I'd expect a full rebuild on both gearbox and transfercase.

I reckon this is par for the course, most of the early five speeds did this. I found if you put it in fifth under a bit of power it seems to stay put. Drop it in with engine at 500rpm and slowly let the clutch out and it will drop out fairly often.
