Okay, can I please hear some feedback from those of you who have gone down the Diesel/Gas highway with a couple of months experience and returned quicker, with more ease and a smile on your face!!??
I just really need to know if the gas system with all its extra components and bits and pieces is the way to go or is it best to just get the Dtronic instead? I dont want to get one system and then after spending the $$ realize I probably should have got the other.

Had it since April. Patrol 2003 4.2 Cab Chassis I/C turbo. Has lived up to its promises. No complaints here. Just had the tappets done. The top end is all clean and shiny.

Do you get the same results if you use bio diesel?

Twinkles, possibly not. It seems to me that, for $3-4000 conversion, our diesels may run both leaner, stronger, and with reduced emissions. Couple that with used cooking oil, and all is brilliant. (Esp. with $2000 Govt rebate.)

My problem is that the long-term effects on the engine remain uncertain. Just not a gambler, I guess. JH.

Had gas for a short while now and am more than happy with it. Economy has so far been approximately 25% better and power is also markedly increased. I can now go up one hill i use to get home in fourth instead of second. My vehicle is a 2000 4.2 Patrol. Book in now as the wait is quite a while at the moment and if you change your mind you can cancel - there is no shortage of customers to take your place.

I've had mine for a short while now (4.2 L 1HZ with Safari Turbo).

My long term average fuel consumption was 6.5 km/litre of diesel.

My fuel consumption is now 8.5km/litre diesel and 31 km/l LPG. This is over a short distance however - only about 500km. It'll take a little longer to get reasonable average figures.

My subjective observations are:
- that there is a heap more power
- that it runs a whole lot smoother

I got $3,000 back from the WA State Gov't ($1,000) and the Federal Gov't ($2,000).

I'm happy.

Cheers

Direct and indirect diesels give different results.

My LandCruser 79 has a lot more power and I am getting about 1 1/2 Liters per 100 Km better consumption .

Oil is cleaner. Had it done 6 months ago and has done a lot of heavy towing since.

Diesel Gas has reduced gear changing on highway by about 2 thirds, with out any sign of overheating.

I have heard of phenomenal improvements with Nissan Patrols

My understanding is that it reduces EGT's, but that doesn't necessarily translate to reduces water temps (in my experience with my 4.2TD). I don't have LPG on my 4.2TD, but my experience with temps is that EGT's can fluctuate wildly without any affect on the water temp, unless it is slogging for extended periods.

When I finally take possession of my "new" vehicle on Tuesday, I might be able to give a better answer, cos the 6.5 Chev has already got the LPG fitted.

Can you guys tell me where in W.A. you got it done and are you happy with the service you got from them and if, roughly how much.
I have two 90 L fuel tanks on my troopy (diesel), what size is your gas tank/ or tanks, and where did they put them? thankyou....regards Phil.

The gas tank size should be 25-30% of your diesel tanks. When I had mine done they only supplied a 30Litre tank, so I am always filling up 'just in case' . . .Have spoken to a Gas fitter, says he can fit a much bigger tank under the tray where the 30 Litre tank is. Not sure about a troupie though.

Now I would love to know if someone has Gas AND a Dtronic or similar fitted. How much extra power can the engine and drive train take ?

EGT temps I am told are actually lower with gas being used.

had mine done in march ,wife recons she can smell gas(lpg that is) every time we go for a drive, still blows black smoke when i put the foot down(so much that you can see the soot stain on the back doors)have had it dyno'd and the fuel turned down, checked for the gas leak and wifey was right, tried to contact the installer twice ,but the recorded message doesent give me the answers i need, did make human contact last week on the same number, different person(the installer orignal phone number)to be informed that to have any warrenty work done it would have to be done by the original installer, whos working out of a different w/shop,i live over 300k's away ,so if the system breaks down in some way ,you cannot pull into any gasfitter and have it fixed

Hi

I had my dieselgas fitted late September 2006. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to cover any big rough 4wd trips yet so it is still early days.

The 30 ltr LPG tank is mounted underneath on the inner LHS in front of the rear axel.
Ground clearance is reduced very slightly by the strong protection plate under the tank.
The exhaust system had to be re-routed to make room for the LPG tank
The 2nd diesel fuel tank remains untouched. This means I now carry about 140 to 150 litres of usable fuel.
Diesel Gas Technologies in Coxs Avenue Kingswood Penrith NSW did the installation. They are very good to do business with. Their communication with the customer is friendly and informative. The finished work looks professional.
Performance is definately improved, especially moving from standstill to about 70 kph and up hills. The engine starts instantly and is smoother and quieter.
Exhaust noise vibration has increased slightly, I suspect this is as a result of the relocation work on the exhaust system. I don't find this to be a problem.

Overall fuel use has not altered at 12.1 litres per 100 kms.

Now using about 9.6 litres diesel and 2.6 litres LPG per 100 kms. I have only traveled about 1,200 kms since the 1,500 kms service & final adjustment so, as I said, it is still early days.

I find I am now moving away from stand still and traveling faster than pre-LPG installation days despite my best intentions. I suspect my wife may go faster still as she is always in a hurry!

The Government rebate of $2,000 was paid within 14 days.

Payback will take many kilometres and will depend on the price of diesel. I note that the financial wizz kids are saying that the oil prices will increase again as the Northern hemisphere winter sets in and the current easing of oil prices is very temporary.

I had LPG fitted to save fuel costs and reduce exhaust emissions as an attempt to do my bit for the environment. I try to be a greenie.

From my research I believe that the LPG injection can increase combustion efficiency, reduce exhaust gas temperature and carbon build up in the combustion chambers. Hopefully this may reduce the chances of premature engine failure as experienced by so many unfortunate owners of the ZD30. Only time will tell and I will celebrate when/if I get to the 250,000 kms without engine failure.

Search the Google Australia for dieselgas and dieselongas web sites for more info on running diesels on LPG. European search engines like Ask Jeeves also have diesel LPG information.

Hope this answers your questions

Cheers
Phil
