Hi all, after all the research, questions etc we have finally got our reversing cameras set up. Yippeeeeeeeeeee. But as with all things we finished up with something quite different to what we set out to get. Just when we thought we had it sussed (that I believe is a modern word) we was shown this Kenwood setup which had solved all problems that we were coming up with. It is a DVD, come CD, come Radio, come reversing cameras, come GPS and for security it folds away nicely into the dash and we can remove the face when we leave the vehicle if we so desire. It was $$$$$ more than we expected but had all things that we were going to replace in time anyway.
Thanks to all forumites who made suggestions along the way, A special thankyou to Derek of ARB who was always very helpful and to Trekker who brought his vehicle up here to show us his setup and gave us the contact where we eventually got our system from.
Anyway hubby has a new toy now LOL.
Cheers

It is a KVT-747DVD, the GPS and the reversing cameras have been added to it of course. The reversing camera on the caravan has audio as
well so that also comes through.

With all that technology it must be a Kenworth not a Kenwood.
Hey enjoy your system , sounds like a good set up.

D&B I have been looking since August when I was given an Ipod for my birthday and my CD in the vehicle gave up the ghost.
Can you give us the model (I have looked at the Kenwood web site) Do you want to tell us what it cost you and who did the install etc
Would really appreciate any information - did you look at the TV option?

The system is a KVT-747DVD the RRP for it is $1999 (we got the system for $1599, I think they might have it out as a special at the moment) however we have had added to it a Camera for the car and one for the caravan and between those two the cost was $748 also added is the GPS which was a further cost of $1299, we bought the system at Car Stereo City in Cannington and the cost included installation to both the Patrol and Caravan. The person who we dealt with there was Gavin and we were very happy with the service we received.
We tried it out last night and it went great, the GPS is very clear, and when giving directions gave street names instead of just instructing to turn left or right.
No we didn't look at the TV option, it wasn't something that we were considering but I guess it could be added later it seems that most anything else can.
I hope you can understand the above and if you require any further info we'll be happy to help
Cheers

Thanx again Deanna,
So is the GPS the "Kenwood KNA-G430AU GPS In Car Navigation unit"? Had trouble finding it- doesn't come up on Kenwoods' Aussie site- only global site.
When you 'flick the switch' (ps: is that a KCA-S210A?), does the gps allow your tunes to keep playing until a direction is required and then just "mutes" audio or does the switch overide your cd player/radio all together?
Also I assume this means you can't control or play music from an ipod while gps unit is running???
I know- I want everything!!!

The GPS system is a KNA-430 but as far as what it can do we have not been able to test it out any more as we are going through a bad time at the moment so the system has been forgotten about but I think from memory you are right, the GPS does overide the others but not sure.
Feel free to ask any more questions.
cheers

Just found this new Garmin on the web and a good offer to go with it
www.ja-gps.com.au/garmin_sp7200_1.htm
The StreetPilot 7200's huge 7-inch (175mm) touch-screen display means you'll always see where you're going — from anywhere in the vehicle. Designed for larger vehicles such as RVs, interstates, delivery trucks and buses, it comes preloaded with City Navigator NT detailed maps for Australian city and rural areas. Advanced sunlight-readable display. Remote control included. For an extra $100, we can supply a back-up camera and appropriate cabling, to show on the 7200 screen.
Entertainment
The StreetPilot 7200 can keep you entertained during your travels, with an internal MP3 player, XM radio, and audio books. The built-in MP3 player lets users browse music by artist, album, song, or genre. Music can be loaded onto an SD card and is “drag-and-drop” easy – no special software is required. All music or speech files can be transmitted over the vehicle’s existing speakers, through the StreetPilot’s built-in FM wireless transmitter or via the unit’s headphone/line-out jack. The entertainment audio is muted when navigation instructions are given.

No i don't think so at this time. I find the Quest is doing ok for me.
My entertainment comes fron a JVC car radio with a USB port so i have a couple of 1GB USB flash drives each with about 280 MP3s or WMAs , I also have in the 4x4 another car radio with USB and SD card ,this one can make MP3s direct from an Audio CD , from FM radio Stations, and record voice from the front Mic' onto the USB or SD card,
