We've camped at the helipad a couple of times. Magic spot when the weather is good, interesting spot when it's not :-))

Its a fairly big area - would fit 10+ vehicles - but its rocky - can be pretty hard on the tent pegs.

Last time we did it was 2 years ago - the track is a good drive if you're not scared of heights - just crawl up in low range.

Sorry PW, have some photos of river which is right next to camping area.
From memory you would squeeze 4 cars in.
Could just about get any 4wd up and down (albeit with a bit of scraping and grinding!- just one or to 'rock steps' to deal with one the way up to helipad- almost all standard mid-full sized 4wds will get through.
Once you get to helipad you've still got a ways to go down again to the river and camping spot.

The camp is very tight at the end with just enough flat space for 1 group to set up 4 tents. If someone else is down there your only other option is to park on the side of the hill. The river is a stones throw away. The steepest part of the climb is approaching Blue Rag but should you get rain whilst down at the river the exit back up the hill can get slippery.
Cheers Craig.............

It's a nice part of the river, but a pretty ordinary camping spot.

We stopped there for lunch but chose not to camp there. There would only just be room for 3-4 cars and it would be tight. its a very scratchy track and in hindsight i probably wouldn't bother going past the lookout again. The river is gorgeous and right next to the camp site but i think you could find better places to camp.

We were told about somewhere not far away from blue rag, i can't remember the name of the hut but from the end of the blue rag track, back towards dargo, there is a hut on your left and a track goes down into a valley behind that hut. i haven't been there but we were recommended that spot as a good camp spot and that' s where we will try next time we are in that area.

Yep, that's Lankey Plain Hut. The valley is 'Mayford' and the track into there is 'King Spur Track'.
