Hi,
What's the general state of this road? I will be in Alice in june next year and would like to take this as the route to or from Kings Canyon.
I have a stock standard non off road Jayco Hawk Camper which i would like to take with me behind my Terracan.
Is the road generally not too bad so that when driven with care, the camper should handle it without being shaken apart?
I know there are 4WD tracks and excursions you can take off the main route which i would obviously unhook the camper to do but my question is about the general state of the road.
Thanks
Des

Gday
If its a reasonably good trailer you shouldnt have any trouble. Yes it is corrugated and generally pretty rough. Obviously sometimes its impassable so youll have to check conditions when you get here but if it was me I would tow a standard camper around that way, just take it easy on the bad bits.
Cheers

Hi Des

We travelled the road last Sept first of all you have to get a premit from the office at Kings Canyon Campground for the day of travel cost about $6.00 i think
the first part was being done up once for go up the hill out of the valley the road got a bit sad and out near the LIFT UM FOOT sign it turn a bit nasty no worrys about pulling a van just slow down and drive to the conditions like you should on all the roads out there and one point stop at Kings creek station great place better than kings canyon campground and cheaper

Its a real lottery, like most of this trips - if Popeye the Grader Man has done a sweep there just before you turn up it'll be great - if its rained awhile earlier, been travelled on too soon by others, and no grader has been around, you'll be picking your way along ! No camping is allowed, but even on slow going, you should have a reasonable day's drive at worst. Enjoy Kings - on a lovely day, what a fabulous place - allow time for the Rim walk if you can - outstanding.

We had a lovely drive round there in July 1995 in an XF Ghia wagon! Literally was a Sunday doddle that day!
We did strike a Loonie in a GXL TOJO who sprayed rocks all around as they "snorted" past along a gravelly section though!

From memory of about 15 months ago, the recommendation is no vans/trailers - with signs both ends.

We came across a camper that had bleep tered it's rear spring hanger on the corro's, causing the thing to flip and destroy the A frame and the undies of the driver and his family. It was a borrowed camper, and it's a long way from anywhere.

Do a search for Mereenie Loop and see what others have said.

Drove it twice ,two years apart.First time it was good, just a few rough spots, next time rough and corrigated nearly the whole length.I was actually glad to get off it that time and I like driving on rough tracks.
No way of telling until your on it driving it.Our permits cost us $2.40.

Hi,
We did it form the Kings Canyon end in August this year. The first bit upto the range was ok (being graded) but after that it was fairly bad. I don't know if the grader pushed on over the other side but like most people will tell you "Drive to the conditions" and enjoy the scenery as It's a wonderfull part of the world.

Cheers

We did it in September. Mate had a Jayco Eagle onroad van. No worries. Just keep the speed down and the tyre pressures. 26 front 30 rear cold. Van on 30 cold.
