would really like to have some opinions on the best possible trip for 5 kids and 2 adults in a patrol with H/Duty off-road trailer full with tent city, we do
camp quite a bit and will only stay in
bush camping areas. We are leaving
Gold Coast after X-Mas day (2A and 2C driving up from Melb first) and considering Red centre or North Qld. kids range from 16 to 6 and travel really
well. Don't want commercial or heavily populated. Basic recovery gear( i want more, she wants less). 91 Patrol. Medium 4WD experience. Oh must be dog friendly and have some sort of
water (river, dam, beach). we have 2 weeks and don't want to drive for 10 days and stay for 4.
Have options to spend a few days in Opal fields of Grawin, N/W NSW. (home for 16 months).
Cheers Brett

Cripes,
Gold Coast to red centre in out of the way
places?? two weeks isn't anywhere near long enough for that trip.
The kids, and consequently the missus would hate you after it.
You won't find too much
water inland and it's cyclone season up North so the tent might get blown away.
I reckon the NW NSW would be the most achievable.

hmmm, they hate me now Notso!!
(actually they love the adventures we have.)
3 of the kids should be in Melb by now but property prices have delayed that, Hence the trip up there again.
last time i looked, most of nth NSW coast line had houses going up on it.
is there still coastal
bush camping areas available?
I'm pretty sure that the opal fields won't have
water, didn't when i was there and haven't heard of any rain in the last 3 years.

I don't reckon there is anywhere on the East coast that fits the description "Out of the Way"
You're right about the
water, just finished a month trip out west and down to Vic, flaming dry everywhere, no
water in the Darling.
There's still heaps in the Murray and Murrumbidgee but all the dams are getting low so it will run out eventually.
Bemm river in Victoria is nice and sort of out of the way. It's on the coast near the Vic NSW border.
Up into the
snowy mountains is nice via the Cann valley Highway but fairly busy over school hols. Lots of nice vcamping spots there. No dogs in Nat
Park though

Have just been up your way for a few weeks and went up as far as Cania Gorge. Dry as dry everywhere but the NE of NSW.
I would be looking at one of the National Parks or State Forests along the ranges - heaps of them around, and if you pick the right place you can do a bit of cheerful 4WDing and be back in
camp for dinner.
New England National
Park has a couple of
camp sites that are pretty nice, have a look at Site Link , and go to www.nnsw.com.au/npa/nationalpark.html .
Check out Gibraltar Range NP, Oxley Wild Rivers NP, Washpool NP, Werrikimbe NP and others along the range. We have had some very happy Christmas and beyond camps along the ranges. If you want to go further try the Victorian High Country.
But stay out of the Outback as already said! And - pretty unlikely to find lightly populated areas anywhere this time of year I'm afraid.
What ever you do - have a nice one!

There are a few waterholes in NW NSW that still have a little
water in them. However, they are mostly on private property and the owners would be reluctant to let anyone on there at the moment.
Water is precious.
You would find good
water for swimming etc at
Innamincka and right now you would have it to yourself. It will be stinncking hot up there now.
Here in
Broken Hill it is currently 39 C and you could add at least 5 maybe 10 to that for
Innamincka. Unless you are willing to drive for long periods you would be looking at the drive for 10
camp for 4 scenario.
The State Forests of northern NSW would probably offer your best bet. If you get some good maps, available from Forestry you should be able to pick out some good
camping.
If you find somewhere good let me know. I would love to spend more time in quiet out of the way camps. I promise not to tell anyone.
