Simpson Desert in May, can anyone give me an idea of fuel consumption for a landrover TDI and a 100 series, please.

Diesel in
Birdsville is $1.03 per litre. Enjoy the desert - stay north of salt lakes at Poepples - don't go into lakes at all.

Thanks Willelm and Company for your helpful advice. Maybe someone was having me on, they told me east to west was mighty different on fuel consumption, than west to east. Also different depending on whether it was summer or winter. We'll estimate based on your advice and the trek notes fuel. Will definitely enjoy !. Thanks again. Al

Al ,
We did the Simpson two years running in 80 series petrol, and averaged 3.5 Km's/l. I now have a 100 series turbo diesel and and have found around town I am getting about 40% better consumption. I would therefore expect around 5-5.5 Km's/l. for the Simpson. If you fill at Mt.Dare or even
Oodnadatta you should have plenty with standard tanks. I don'nt know about the Tdi but I think they are more economical.
Have a great trip and take at least 2-3 days to enjoy it.
Graeme

Ps. Sorry, just realised you said east to west, but filling at either end you should have plenty.
