Hi,
I can say when I had my hilux it overheated and tried all the usual things {thermostat etc} ended up taking it to NULOOK radiators he knew exactly what was wrong with it he said theres only a couple of mill clearence in the bottom
tank and it should be at least 25 mill, so he extended it for me for $100.00 and bingo problem solved, hope this helps,
regards,
Dave

Hi
I have some experience with the Hilux Surf radiators, if you pull the bottom hose of the radiator and have a look inside the radiator they sometimes have a metal fin inside that blocks the
water flow, this fin closes up the outlet by about half which causes decreased
water flow and in turn over heating, cut off this fin and hey presto problem fixed, this is not always the cause with all the radiators but some do have this problem.
Hope this helps
Steve

Has it all ways run hot ? are your spottis blocking the airflow ? is your viscous fan operating properly? If its none of these as
well as all the other things you have done have timing checked both mechanical & fuel .If that all fails get a AUSSIE DESERT COOLER triple pass radiator it will cool the worst of them (yes they are made for your truck) all so have your block reversed flushed under pressure & don't forget the
water pump .A oil cooler probably wont reduce you eng temp much on that vehicle. is your A/C condenser clean (often overlooked).. hope this might help...666toy

Id probably first go back to the guy who recommended a new radiator?
But you might need to give more info for a proper answer on here.
Does it only overheat towing? or only with AC on (common,
mine does it) Or since the head was done or only since the turbo was fitted? What type of turbo has been fitted, maybe the turbo kit manufacturer can help.
Do you live up north or down in the cooler climate?
Does it always overheat no matter what?

Yeah, perhaps when they fitted the turbo they didn't tune the pump right and it's overfuling. Does it blow a lot of black smoke on acceleration?
Viscous fan would be the first place I start though. It's a major problem on TD42's, 80's and Surf's. I put two tubes of the silicone in the surf and it helps a lot. It seemed like it was working, but it obviously was not locking completly and high rev's, hence not cooling
well enough.

Just put a new clutch fan on myn, genuine toyota $300, DO NOT use after market clutch fans they are crap, have been told this by many a spare parts
shop when getting prices for myn also the turbo shops when enquiring told me to go genuine so I took there advice and have had no problems. This is also one of the reasons I didnt turbo my lux as a few people on this
forum when I asked the question about putting a turbo on was that overheating would be an issue especially when towing and/or running the air con or both so took the advice and have put the $3500 in the bank and putting towards a new 4by replacing the coommodore for my wife. If this problem has only just occured then I would follow the advice of above. If you have just bought the vehicle then might be why they got rid of it. I towed my camper back from up the scrub couple of weeks ago, 37c outside pulling up hills 3rd gear running aircon and guage didnt move from normal operating temp which is a tad under half for 500klms. hi to everyone,
i had a good chat with norm at "AUSSIE DESERT COOLERS" and he put me on the right track, either to get a custom larger radiator, custom built by them $520
not a bad price seeing its twice the capacity or to go with a oil cooler . rang
ROCKET INDUSTRIES and they can supply cooler & "sandwiche" for oil filter to block conection to attach said cooler and will work just as
well total cost under $500
