anyone have any feedback on fuel tanks from "goannawhere"?
www.4wdsystems.com.au/html/tanks.htm
This is going to give me a whopping 240 litres on my small diesel (2.8 GQ) giving me great range. More storage than the other well known brands.

Thanks,

I think the tanks are OK but the customer service is cr@p. I ordered one for my 80 series which would be ready in a week. Five weeks later and several phone calls, and still no tank, or any idea of the actual (not marketing) delivery time. I ended up installing a Long Ranger tank which has been brilliant - no regrets. A friend installed a cargo barrier, snorkel, fuel tank, and wanted a wheel carrier on his 60 series. The wheel carrier never arrived so he made his own. The cargo barrier would not fit, and looked like a piece of scrap - replaced with Miford unit. The snorkel was OK but then they don't make them, only on-sell them. The fuel tank looked great, fitted well, but clogged about a dozen inline fuel filters before it settled down. On his next vehicle, he is fitting a Long Ranger, so I guess that's how much he liked the 4WD Systems one!
Maybe we have just been unlucky, but one success out of 5 items means I'll never buy from them again. BTW my friend found out that the warranty on the cargo barrier only covered faulty manufacture - and the fact it didn't fit didn't count!!! They said he ordered the wrong one, so not their problem, but couldn't find the original order to verify their bull bleep . He had a copy, but they said it wasn't the original order so not acceptable (they kept the original!)
I know they have many happy customers, but we're not among them. All I can say is buyer beware!!

Cheers
John

PS I have nearly all ARB-sourced equipment on my vehicle, after becoming disillusioned with the cheaper brands. No regrets so far, and no I'm not affiliated with either company in any way except as a happy or not-so-happy customer.

Hi Gossy,

I have had an 81L Aux and 159L main fitted for around 12 months now. Bit fiddly to fit yourself but can be done in about 7 hours with a mate. Have had no problems with the tanks themselves - only with the installers ;-). Forgot to tighten a hose clamp and had a fuel leak which was in a hard to get spot.

Love the capacity and they don't impede clearance. It can also be a bit fiddly getting the Aux tank float adjusted to the right level but you can access the sender assembly from under the right rear passengers seat.

Overall I would not hesitate in recommending them.

Regards
David

I bought one for my Hilux TD about a year ago. It was hundreds cheaper than others. It developed a hair line crack on the front where a bracket was welded on on a big trip this year, Tanami, Kimberly etc. I enquired about getting it welded in Derby but was too much trouble taking it out etc, it was only leaking a tiny amount, just enough to rust proof everything around it. Out of interest the guy at Kimberley Autos in Derby was very helpful, got a service done from him, and he said he has seen all brands of tanks crack, "even Longranger" (his words) When we got home took it to the local agent here in the Riverland who removed it, returned it to 4WD systems in Adelaide who repaired it, freighted it back and paid for the local bloke to reinstal it, no cost at all to me (nor should it be under warranty) but I can't complain at all about the service.

I had one fitted to my Triton a few year's back,it was about the only thing I didn't have trouble with from that mob.

I wouldn't mind that range handy to have.

Been a number of reports of trouble with them , including spiltting welds etc more so than other brands. Also some good reports. Check these archives.

Of the two I have helped with they continue to work , but where fairly poorly made

One on a Navra , protrudes a nasty square on corner to the front of the tank which has taken some hits.

When I needed to get a tank I got the ARB line , it didn't hold as much fuel , but one glance showed you that the whole construction was a lot more professional.

The Goannawhere units are the cheapest though.

seems to be mixed comments. I'm wondering if good and bad experiences have also been encountered with the more common brands? I guess the good news is that there is not a consistent pattern of bad reports.

I got one from the ARB line in my 80 series.
All up I carry 270 litres of diesel.
It's got a few dings in it but has never given me any trouble.
I would highly recommened them.

G'day Grossy

The Polar Bear (my 97 model 80 series) has just clocked up 100,000 km over 3.5 years since fitting the following extras supplied by 4wd systems.
190l 2nd tank (285l total)
part time 4wd kit & locker
cargo barrier & drawer system
100mm suspension lift
snorkel
I live in SE NSW & all purchases were couriered promptly.

All items have were OK to fit & worked perfectly. I love 'em & happily give 'em a wrap whenever asked.
The rear shocks failed after 2.5 years & many horrendous trips like the Simpson, Anne Beadell & Cape York & were replaced immediately after the claim form was lodged.
Ask for the boss Tom Hewitson & I sure he will look after you personally as he did me.

Just a point worth mentioning - In my case the larger 2nd tank requires a rear spare tyre carrier & combine this with drawers & a 150kg to 300 kg ball weight of a trailer, it makes a rear end weight balance problem as all items mentioned are behind the rear axle. This makes polyairs essential as the rear axle weight can approach 2.5 tonnes.

Hope this is of help

good news! An excellent point about the weight. Didn't think of that! Not sure if the 2.8TD is built as tough as the 4.2 diesel in regard to axle's etc (probably not) so will need to check on that.

Thanks,
