Hello all,
Heading over to Tassie for 2 weeks in the new year with SWMBO and another couple in a GQ. Both rigs
well set up and experienced drivers and crew.
Got a rough list of "touristy" spots to check out,
but trying to get a list of more "challenging" tracks and spots to go...
how about some secret local spots/ tracks???!!!
All and any advice welcome!
Thanx in advance, Rob.

Hi Rob,
Apart from intimate local knowledge from locals (that won't be me, I only lived there 30 years!) you may want to have a look at:
here
This book is generally regarded
well regarded and has a range of tracks in it.
regards

None that I could vouch for now. I haven't lived there for 7 years. Tracks can come and go quickly in Tassie often because of logging operations and sometimes just because they get closed or the weather (particularly on the West Coast) can make them useless.
I suspect the known ones in the book for the West Coast will keep you entertained, it's a small island but parts are very remote.
You can always contact some of the local clubs before you go. The list of clubs can be found here I think.
Cheers.

Balfour Track was a bit of a disappointment in Jan 2005. Nowhere near as challenging as it is written up to be.
Run down the coast from
Arthur River to
Sandy Cape was fun, but again, not too tough. Just don't do this one alone because the quicksand can grab you quicksmart. Have snatch strap mounted on all vehicles for quick recovery.
Ring River Track(?) to Montezuma(?) falls was a nice track, couple of sphincter tightening bits, but not too bad.
Also did one of the runs over Mt
Wellington behind
Hobart, but cannot remember the name. That was fun but no
views as it rained all the way.
Although it is a little place, still needs a bit of planning to make sure you get some good tracks in amongst the normal tourist stuff.

Try Google Earth. Have a look at the west coast area and you can see quite a few tracks which maybe don't appear on maps.
If you print your results you could use them to explore.
Cheers
